UCSC vs. SJSU

Hi,
I am having a problem choosing UCSC and San Jose State University. I am going to apply as a biochem major and plan to enroll in a pharmacy school after i graduate.Right now, more interested in going to UCSC. I consider UCSC to be underate compared to other UCs like Cal but its education and especially is biological sciences is still good.

My parents want me to go to SJSU because it is considerably cheaper and since I live in San Jose, they don't have to worry about me living far off. My dad says that choosing a 4-year college doesn't matter and what matters is the graduate school i will be applying.

Although experiencing the college life, getting more chances of having internship and volunteering, and more resaerching opportunities separate UCSC from SJSU, is it worth it for pay about 100k after i graduate and this does not even count pharmacy school.

Even if you go to UCSC, aren't you gonna get any kind of scholarship (such as cal grant)? My family is very financially well-off, I am not the best student, and I still got a cal grant offer of over $6,600 a year.

Go to UCSC, the pharmacy school will take the UC student over any state student any day, anytime.

Sometimes, it can be tough for middle class families. I wasn't accepted for grants. The only thing they offer to me was a $ 3500 subsidized federal direct Loan. Is there any way i can push for a better financial aid packet.

UC Santa Cruz is far, far superior to San Jose State. One of the principal reasons is that over half of the faculty at San Jose are "adjunct" - they're hired to teach individual courses on a semester by semester basis, such that they are difficult to get hold of during that term and close to impossible to reach afterwards. This makes an enormous difference for the quality of instruction and grad school applications.

UC Santa Cruz has the lowest proportion of adjunct faculty of any UC campus. This makes it far superior for undergraduate instruction in particular.

I can't provide Financial Aid tips as my son who worked there at UCSC has graduated. Consider going to a community college for two years and then transferring to UCSC. That might be more affordable, and would still get you the UC bonus for grad school applications.

UCSC will definately get you to pharmacy school.. not that SJSU will not, but you have greater chances at UCSC. If it is an issue with money, I think you should talk to the financial aid office.
