So I'm looking at UCSC and UCSB. These are my main choices. Right now my brother is going to UCSC so I'm thinking about going there with him. But I want to know a couple of things first. I visited UCSB but not UCSC. I think UCSB is clearly filled with party kids. I also know that its known for being a pretty social place (I have a fried that goes there she said she'd help me out). UCSC I've heard has a bunch of kids smoking weed, and that's it's a really nice place to lay back and relax. So I'll just lay out my thoughts.

UCSB
Pros-
1. Better in rank for GRADUATE programs from US news
2. Class size is just a little smaller 18:1 (vs 17:1)
3. Social Life is more open?
4. I have a friend there. (She's awesome and been there for 3 years. So I can always go to her my freshman year for help.)

Cons-
1. Party reputation (I'm a shy man in general)
2. Far away from the Silicon Valley, where you can get research opportunities.
3. Brother not there

UCSC
Pros-
1. A lot of computer science programs
2. Focus on undergraduate programs
3. Close to Silicon Valley and a lot of kids get recruited from there.
4. My brother is there

Cons-
1. Less ranking it seems
2. Seems you have to work hard by yourself
3. Not so much a social place if I ever want that option

Please comment. Any input is valued, even if it means introspection. I understand that what I may say is contradicting itself in some ways. Evaluate it on that basis even if it means dissecting this psychologically. I really need the help guise. Please help me.
