UCSD 2018 Transfer Waitlist Thread

Do you guys know if it’s possible to ask to be considered under a different major? Rn I’m just psychology but I want to be considered under psychology: cognitive & neuroscience, which has the same prereqs?

@anthonydavis I think it’s best to wait after you get accepted. Since you’re waitlisted, you’re kinda still under consideration. I requested a major change at UCI after I got accepted and it was approved the next day! At least after you’re accepted, it wouldn’t hurt to try and you’ll still have your acceptance even if the major request doesn’t get approved

@jaceymoo God why do you always come in so clutch?!? You’re right I should just wait… & What did you end up changing your major to? I never ended up going to the UCI transfer day, how was it?

@anthonydavis Hahaha it’s just my personal opinion based off experience! I changed it from Sociology to Social Policy and Public Service  I’m actually very excited about it. Transfer day was cool. It didn’t seem as nice as the freshmen day so that was a bummer

@jaceymoo Cool! What is the difference between the two majors?? And I’m sorry about transfer day, if I’m being honest I think that some schools hold transfers with less importance than they do their freshman … :frowning:

Does anyone know how UCSD’s Admissions accept students off their waitlists? Is it based off of majors, last names, or something else?

The UCs base entry on space in each major. I’m not sure if UCSD would bring you in off a waitlist as undeclared. It would seem to me it would still ultimately depend, in part, as to how much room is in your area of study. Someone else might have a definitive answer.

Does anyone know can I still accept the waitlist offer after SIR. I got UCI’s offer, but I’m in the waitlist of UCSD. The deadline for SIR is June 1st, and I cannot wait the waitlist after that.

@rickguo if UCSD offered you a spot OFF the waitlist aka they accepted you into their school I think you can accept it but you’d have to pick UCI vs UCSD. But if you’re talking about accepting UCSD’s offer to opt into their waitlist then I believe the date passed on may 15

Thanks bro. I mean I am not get the waitlist off, I just accepted UCI’s offer. I want to know if UCSD offered me off the waitlist, I can cancel UCI’s offer and accept UCSD, right?

@rickguo yes! As soon as you get into UCSD, you can accept their offer and cancel your UCI SIR, however, you will lose the deposit you put in

Just seen someone post that they got off the waitlist, anybody else?

Yup, got off the waitlist yesterday! Econ major

@CollegeStu2018 Hey congratulations! Are you gonna SIR?

@anthonydavis Nope. I’m still on the waitlist! -.-" I feel like admissions now are offered based off of availability, instead of sort of the randomized method that I initially thought.

@Lumpsky are you aware of anyone in your major being accepted? Nobody from mine has been so I guess it also has to do with major too? I’m unsure

@anthonydavis I don’t unfortunately haha. I only know of one other person who’s also an Engineering major and he hasn’t heard anything back from UCSD yet (he’s also on the waitlist). Fingers crossed that we all get notified soon!

@Lumpsky definitely! That just means that they haven’t gotten to us yet, hopefully we’ll be hearing soon! I feel confident, especially since it’s not even June 1 and they have already accepted people so it’s not like they’re at capacity already. I also saw you on the ucla appeals thread LOL… it’s nice to know someone else is going through the exact same feelings as I am. If not ucsd, or ucla, where are you headed?

@anthonydavis Honestly, I’m banking everything right now on SD and LA. Fingers crossed that either will come through will an offer soon. If not them, I’ll most likely be going to SJSU. Yourself?

@Lumpsky you and I are the same person dude. UCLA and UCSD were my top 1 & 2, and I didn’t expect this to happen so now I may just SIR to uci and hope I get an offer from either school. Like I genuinely did not think I would be in this position  What’re you basing your appeal on, if you don’t mind me asking?
