I was just informed today by mail that my admissions to UCSD has been canceled due to my not sending a transcript in to admissions. This for a non-required Calculus 3 class that I was taking early this semester at a new college half an hour away from my house. I ended up dropping the class after the first week to keep up with my additional 20 unit work load.

I thought I e-mailed UCSD about this early in the semester, but I may haved e-mailed the wrong person.

Is there any way through this? My GPA isn't affected and I did not receive a "W". There is no record on my transcript from that college, which means I have no transcript with that college. Everything else from my admissions letter has been completed on-time.

I'm going to call UCSD admissions tomorrow, but until then, would greatly appreciate some advice.

It’s my understanding that if it doesn’t show up on a transcript, you don’t report it. That’s the point of the “last day to drop without a W” date, right?

It was actually reported on the future classes list and was given a grade of “CS” or something similar indicating I was planning on taking the course.

UCSD still doesn’t know that I dropped the class and never received any notation, but the way I see it now, it is 50/50 due to the fact that the class is now (or maybe has been) a prerequisite.

I think you’ll need to update your application to indicate that you dropped the course without a W. However, as you mention, that may still affect your admissions decision if its a prereq for your major.

The first step is to get “unrescinded” for the not-sending-the-transcript issue. From there you’ll find out if not taking the course will affect the decision.

I think you need a transcript from any school where you were enrolled in a class, even if you never earned a grade including a W. Send a letter of appeal to USCD explaining that you were not aware of that and have the CC send an official transcript, even if it only says you were briefly registered there, to UCSD. It seems that UCSD has revoked the acceptances of many students for this type of oversight but it also looks like most of them are being reinstated after sending the missing transcript and sending a convincing letter of appeal.

If I am registered at multiple community colleges, but not taken a course at those schools, am I still required to send in transcripts from those schools?

Just an update. I haven’t called, yet. But I did manage to find my admit packet online, and my contract doesn’t state anything about finishing all prereqs. My admit packet only states that I have to keep a GPA of 3.00 or above, Send in all transcripts, and finish all UC general education classes by the end of the spring 2010 semester (I finished mine in 2009).

The issue is not whether you finished your prerequisites or not, or if you maintained an adequate GPA, the problem UCSD is having with you is that you attended a school, albeit briefly, that you did not submit a transcript for so as far as they are concerned you did not submit all of the required transcripts. They need official transcripts from every school you ever attended to verify that your academic record has been fully disclosed to them. UCSD does not know the particulars of your enrollment at the CC you briefly attended, only that you enrolled in a class there. They have no way of knowing that you did not get an F in the course and did not submit a transcript so USCD would not learn about the failing grade.

From what others in your situation have posted it appears that if you send the transcript immediately and write a letter of appeal that there were extenuating circumstances as to why you did not have a transcript sent to them you will be reinstated. If you do not submit a transcript because you believe you were not required to you will essentially be refusing to comply with UCSD’s request for your complete academic record and there is little likelihood that they would reinstate you.

Called UCSD, spoke to an Admissions officer. She told me I have to send in a letter of appeal plus evidence (transcript, etc) backing up my appeal letter.

I mailed the documents today via FedEx overnight, should be received tomorrow. We’ll see what happens. Could possibly take up-to ten days, should be less.
