UCSD Appeal Questions

[Decided I would make this thread since I didn't want to intrude in the Acceptance thread]

First off, congrats so far to chris and mythology on getting via your phone call and bypassing the appeal process! That is such a shame that they were seemingly careless with your guys' applications. You guys must be feeling the greatest sense of relief ever right now.

My questions (pretty please answer any that you guys can).

With the way they rummaged through some applications, Do you think they may have overlooked my units? I only have 60+ if my 4 AP's are included/b; if they forgot to count these, then they would have counted only 58 units.
Secondly, each of the 6 colleges differ in amount of credit awarded for every APs--how will they have calculated mine? I'm worried that would have calculated it from the perspective of the anal colleges like ERC/Revelle, and so then my APs would not have put me at 60 units.

epikhigh reported that on the phone they said they **don't care about IGETC or "any of that stuff"
--do you think this 'stuff' include prerequisites? If the answer is no, then will they accept my situation that there were no articulation courses at ANY CC (within 50 miles of me) for two prerequisites? (my major is unimpacted--Sociology)

My GPA at my 4-year in 28 units was a 2.92, but I still meet the definition of a Community College student--my GPA at my CC last Fall was a 3.78 and this Spring I'm making a 3.9. Is it reasonable if I attempt to suade them to look more at my CC GPA than 4-year, and @ my upward grade trend? Because there is SUCH a difference in difficulty between any 4-year and a CC. I feel that it's unfair if they simply calculated the average between my 4-year GPA and CC GPA.

Also if I may ask, what was the total duration of your guys' phone calls with them? The reason I ask is because I get home today at 3:30 PM, and they close at 4 -- do you think that'll be sufficient time, or should I wait till tomorrow morning. Were they patient with you the whole time? or were they annoyed?

Thank you so much in advance. You guys are seriously life-savers...

TAG is TAG i guess… i’m sure we aren’t the only two that they screwed up on.

Don’t worry, I only had over 60 with my 4 APs as well. They don’t offer differing amounts of credit. Eng lang: 4 Euro: 8 Art Hist: 8 US: 8 (quarter units, semester is 5.3/2.7 respectively). The colleges don’t see your application. only the admissions officers do.

he was a four year transfer, not a CC to UC transfer so they don’t care about IGETC like CC to UC I’m assuming.

3.i don’t know

I was on hold for like 6 minutes. He took about three minutes looking over my app before he said can i put you on hold. I’m assuming a bunch of people were calling. It took like 6 minutes just to get someone on the line. I’ve never waited that long before.

But yeah… after he put me on hold I guess he went to talk to someone. After he came back he said he was going to forward my stuff to a supervisor because I had done TAG.

Overall, it was about ~10-15 mins.

If you’re on the line with them before 4, they’re not just going to hang up on you

It wouldn’t hurt to call and find out, but if you call at 3:30 it might be hard to get through since there is a high volume of calls. And it shouldn’t matter if they get annoyed or whatever, its a matter of your future and I think they can take out a few minutes to make sure they didn’t screw up on evaluating your application(like they obviously did for some other people even after putting off releasing decisions till the last day).

I’m not a CC transfer, but I go to a 4-year and my cumulative gpa is 3.47, which apparently is probably why I got rejected considering the 4-year GPA cutoff was god damn 3.8. I’m trying to appeal on the basis that I had to deal with a death in the family while maintaining my GPA. But I don’t know if this will carry any weight with them, any thoughts? I applied as a History major, which is not impacted, and my letter of rec is from a history professor at my 4-year who got his PhD from UCSD in 2004, so I don’t know if that matters either.
