i found out i got rejected to UCSD saturday. i was pretty down that day. anyway... i called them yesterday and spoke w/ a not so nice lady. she said, "go to another UC" and "your GPA is too low" like five times each, literally. i did leave parts of the app out (family income, csl hours, single-parent family) which would've qualfied me according to their point scale. my point total was 7189 and i needed 7460. she said that an appeal would be useless cuz it was my fault for not putting it into the apps. so what is "compelling new evidence" if i can't put anything sr year or anything i left out on my app? should i appeal or should i waste my time? comments/advice please. thanks.

'old information that you forgot/declined to enter in the application' is not the same as "compelling NEW evidence'. I think that is her point. Since they must get 1000s of calls inquiring about appeals, she probably had reached her burnout point. It seems to me you can either 1) choose to move on 2) file the appeal. If you select #2, I suggest you be realistic, and realize it is a longshot, but if you don't ask, how can they say yes?. Option #1 may be better than prolonging the doubt.

You paid the application fee. Get your money's worth and appeal so you don't have to regret later on that you had this opportunity to do something but chose to do nothing. You never know- you only stand to gain...

It's hard to argue with jyancy, it can't hurt. What can hurt is for you to think it's anything but a miniscule chance. Just look at how many people on this site are going to appeal alone. The are a lot of kids not into the ucs they were counting on this year and there is a process for them to leave the door open. Imagine if Harvard had appeals!

Successful appeals will have real, good reasons.

^ i know how you feel but worse, i didnt make it because i have a 7370 and i needed a 7460 t.t.... i think if i dont get into ucb or ucm ill appeal

what compelling new evidence do i need for the appeal to work? what are real good reasons for appeals?

I would definately appeal if I were you.

me too you should appeal. I called them and they said "compleeing new evidence" = life changing situation. i believe it's like u suffered a stroke between those times or a death in the family kind of deal...

i wrote about a psychological disorder in my essay, saying i didnt have $$ 2 go to a psychologist n had to put up w/ it. I got only 133 points / 500 points for hardship. Now my compelling info could be that i go to a psychologist n have her write something saying that my disorder is very very bad n that it affected my studying a lot maybe it'll convince them more? shoud.l i appeal? i got 7303 on comprehensive review. help me plz.

if we have a letter of support, should that be mailed & sealed separately or in the same envelope as my appeal letter. i wouldn't want them getting confused or they might just get annoyed and disregard it. it's a letter from my principal.

ucsd doesnt accept appeals. you have to apply again next year. its on their website.

where? can u show us

im so upset right now, do they take appeals or not!

Yes! Yes, they take appeals, all UCs do.

The system has warned all applicants that each candidate undergoes a "comprehensive" review. The campus will look at appeals, but a very, very small percentage of those who appealed will have their decisions overturned. So you can file appeals with compelling new evidence, but it doesn't guarantee that the reviewers will change their decision.

Numbers? It's all in that site. For Fall 2003, UCSD received 833 appeals; 64 had their decisions reversed. It's from 2 years ago, but the numbers show how hard it is to have a successful appeal. The site also has instructions on how each campus goes about with the appeals process.

You guys have a lot of work ahead of you, for those who are serious about going through this. I sympathize with all of you. But despite the low numbers, overturns **are **possible! Good luck to all of you...

i heard it really hard to get in ucsd with an appeal, unless the new informations is really extremely compelling....

if you guys were accepted else where, i suggest you go there like me....
i decided to go to uc davis

Getting REJECTED FROM UCSD is the best thing that ever happened to you

^ really ?? why would you say this??

how do you guys know your point total/comprehensive review score?

^ when you call ucsd admissions and ask the counselors they tell you for sure.... thats how i found out, if only i had couple more points i could of got in....t.t
