UCSD Bioengineering Majors

I am in the process of picking majors in the UC application and had some questions about the bioengineering majors at UCSD. I know that the school previously had a bioengineering pre-med major, but they recently removed it. If I am looking into applying to medical school and getting into research (particularly in areas such as tissue engineering, drug delivery), then which major would be the best for me?

Thank you in advance!

Any major, provided you are able to complete premed requirements and/or get undergraduate research experience.

I understand that you can go to medical school with any major. I was just asking if one of the bioengineering majors had more medical school prerequisites or was a better choice for students wishing to go into medical school.

All of the bioengineering majors list their entire curriculum online. You can go to the bioengineering website (be.ucsd.edu) to look at which major requires more med school prerequisites. But to be honest, they’re all very similar in terms of the med school pre-reqs they cover.

There is no “better choice” for students wishing to go to medical school. There may be a better choice for you, however. But there’s no way we can know what that is. Take a look at the upper division requirements, which is where the majors really differ, and see which one suits you better or interests you more.
