I'm just wondering how difficult it is to get into a bioengineering major at University of California, San Diego. I want to know statistics for academic things like average GPA and SAT scores. I also appreciate any insight or advice from people who were admitted into the UCSD bioengineering major as an undergraduate. Thanks.

My sister got in

Bioengineering/Biotechnology in 2010 (class 2014)
GPA 4.20
SAT 1900
Summer classes: Biotechnology 2008, Spanish 2009
After school classes: Medlink 2009
12 years Scout, 4 years tutor, volunteer, secretary, 8 years volleyball

Thanks. Any more insight?

Well I think it is easier if you were to be admitted as an undergraduate. If you were to change from a different major to bioengineering after you get admitted then it would be more difficult since you would have to have most of the prereqs done before you apply for a change of major into bioengineering. What I was told was that the bioengineering department offered 10 spots for each bioengineering discipline: regular bioengineering, bioengineering: biotechnology or bioengineeing: bioinformatics, in the year I applied. You get chosen based on GPA soley, considering the prereqs are done.

Bump…

Anyone else?

i do know that ucsd bioengineering is really hard to get into, since a friend of mine with these statistics didn’t get in:

SAT: somewhere between 2200 and 2300 (forgot it)
GPA: 3.8 unweighted
4.5 weighted
EC’s: SO MANY. some include, 2 leadership positions, tutor for 80+ hours, taekwondo second degree belt with 6 yrs training, won awards at DECA conferences.

UCLA bioengineering accepted him though, and he’s in UCLA now. hope this helped!

Thanks. Anymore testimonials?
