UCSD C/O 2018 Waitlist Thread

I ended up getting my decision before the site went down. This is what myapplication said:

Thank you for your application to UC San Diego for Fall Quarter 2014. After a thorough review of your application, we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission at this time. However, as an exceptional applicant, we are pleased to offer you the opportunity to be considered for admission, should space become available after May 1. This waitlist offer is available to a limited number of students and is not a guarantee of admission.

We cannot predict whether you will receive an offer of admission by being on the waitlist. To learn more about our waitlist process, please take some time to carefully review our Waitlist FAQs, which also lists the mandatory deadlines.

You have until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, to reserve your place on the waitlist online by submitting a brief 200-word statement telling us why you would like to attend UC San Diego. If you choose to accept a place on our waitlist, we will notify you of our final application decision as soon as we know whether we can make additional offers of admission. This will be between May 1 and no later than June 1.

Anyone have info on how successful waitlisted people were last year?

Hi, fellow waitlisted person! Yeah, I’m curious too…

in 2012, none of the people on the waitlist were accepted. As for last year, I think a few were able to get in, although I don’t have an exact percentage.

What did the waitlist message say?

@happilee - nooOOO- oh well, I have UC Davis, and they’re tied in the rankings, so… :)

Well portals back up and got officially wait listed. Does anyone know what are the previous history of acceptance from wait list at UCSD. I know that either last year or 2 years ago not a single person from wait list got accepted.

Waitlisted. Got into UCD. I am sad.

I want to do pre-med, and most things I looked up rank UCSD over UCD in pre-med. Is this true? It seems that UCD’s pre-med and biology program are actually pretty good too but I’m not sure how good they are compared to UCSD.

Hey guys, I got waitlisted too… I’m just really confused as to the reason because my scores and everything put me right in the averages for admitted students. I’m not a bio or engineering major either. Like what?

Honestly, I thought I would’ve gotten accepted even though my test scores are sub-par and I’m from out-of-state, but I got into Irvine, Merced, Riverside, Davis, and Santa Cruz. Davis and Riverside gave me scholarship money. So I guess being waitlisted isn’t too bad. I just hope this doesn’t foreshadow anything bad for Berkeley and LA.

I’m glad someone started this thread because I got waitlisted as well. I am waiting on other UC’s but I got accepted to Santa Cruz yesterday.

I got waitlisted to SD and rejected from Davis. Super nervous for the remaining ones now /:

Is there any way to see our financial aid even if we are waitlisted?

Got waitlisted from SD. I heard that you can call and ask why they chose not to offer admission? Anyone know if this is true?
Accepted to UCR with scholarship but that doesn’t mean much. Rejected from SC which I was verrry surprised about… Thought I would definitely get in seeing as my GPA is higher and my test scores are waaay higher than the average. Guess I wasn’t the type of applicant they were looking for.
Waiting to hear back from SB and LA ( I already know UCLA is not happening) .
Got accepted to USD as well.
I’m also an OOS applicant. I live in VA

Waitlisted to Comp. Engineering/Intl Studies- Econ
I was surprised to find that I was waitlisted to intl studies-econ
4.17 GPA/2160SAT/32ACT

waitlisted as well, i’ve been seeing a lot of well qualified applicants getting waitlisted and I just hope spots manage to open up for us!

i just hope this doesn’t hint at at a rejection from UCLA/UCB

I was waitlisted for first choice Molecular Biology and second choice Microbiology.
Does anyone know if they consider your second choice major before deciding to waitlist?

@akuzzy
I wouldn’t call to ask about why they didn’t offer you admission because they haven’t officially rejected you nor would they have your application right in front of them to tell you why exactly. If you asked, they’d probably tell you a general, “we had so many applicants and too few spaces”–which is very true.
But, I did read very good info about calling to ask if there is a ranking on the list, where you are on the list, and how many were waitlisted from last year and if the AO expects this year to be similar.

in 2012, as I said before, they accepted no one.
And in 2013, Ms. Sun reports that no one was accepted from the waitlist.
Error;

it looks pretty bleak for us, guys.

Major choice does not effect college admission thats why you see some students who wanted engineering as undeclared majors they were good enough to get into UCSD but not necessarily good enough for the impacted engineering major (all other majors aren’t impacted :D)

I got wait listed too sigh

@sixthyucsd where did you get those numbers… I know you attend ucsd but I can’t find anything about last year’s stats for waitlist
