so all the UCSD "currently going to " students..
quick question

can you give a description of each campus at UCSD? for applications we have to put which campus etc. so i want a more info. on it. i went to their website read through it, but it was confusing so i was hoping UCSD students can put it in nicer terms for me? like what do you like about the campus ,etc

Pick the college with the GE’s that best fit you. Maybe consider location and dorms if you want.

In general Muir / Warren have the best GE’s, and unless you like writing you probably dont want a huge writing sequence. Muir / Warren just have 2.

Arctic is correct. I considered # of GEs and location when ranking the colleges. Muir is generally agreed to be the best one fulfilling both criteria.

True, true. With Muir, Marshall and Warren, its not too bad. I’m in Marshall and finished lower div GEs my freshman year (and the 2 upper div ones easily as one overlaps with my minor, hehe). Finishing GEs is good (so find the college that works best with that) because then you can focus on your major and making connections there. :)

Muir has the best (read: most flexible) GEs and the best food, and probably the best location. The only downside is that the reshalls are really ugly, imo, and their rooms are small. Revelle is generally considered to have the hardest GEs, as well as the worst dorms/food/etc. ERC has the second hardest GEs, and it’s far away from everything, but it’s the prettiest college by far and the rooms are nice. Warren has the second easiest GEs. Marshall and Sixth are kind of the middle of the road colleges.

I ranked mine as Warren, Muir, Marshall, Sixth, Revelle, ERC.

Warren and Muir are considered the easier GEs. Warren for sure if you’re an engineer. (Warren is also really good for double majors/minors because of PofC). Muir is usually the favorite of many though because they have easy GEs and a good location on campus.

Marshall also has pretty good GEs with really good food (OVT, Goodys). Sixth is decent as well with GEs.

ERC and Revelle has the most GEs. However, ERC is beautiful while Revelle has the history i guess.

I honestly ranked ERC last and I got into ERC… but now I kind of find to enjoy this, especially thanks to the social atmosphere here, probably the most lively of the entire campus. The instant you start finding your classes on the other campuses; you’ll start to appreciate how ERC has the newest amenities.

I’m applying for fall of 2011, and, although I fluctuate frequently, I currently am thinking…
ERC, Sixth, Warren, Revelle, Muir, Marshall.
Call me crazy, but MMW seems really interesting. Should I reconsider? Haha

ERC has breathtaking architecture, but paper thin walls (my friend can hear her suitemates showering easily). and the elevator there is feebly slow+unsafe (jump a bit and you can feel the box jostling up and down)
Muir has the best dining hall (doesnt sound like much, but its nice having good food 5 minutes away), but very…industrial architecture. its all unpainted concrete. I think our rooms are bigger though
Marshall has goodies, really good food after midnight (I think TapEx and burger king are the only other food places opened then, dining halls close at 8)
sixth is just…out there. dorms are cramped lodges

In terms of convenience (in terms of getting places), Marshall/muir seem to take the lead

well i want to focus more on math and calculus…my major is pharmacological chemistry. and I dont feel like writing too much…
i dont care too much about living on campus, im live about 15 mins away or so, or i could get an apartment… dont want to live on campus though…
i like food so thats a positive (lol?)

i was thinking about ERC, Revelle, Muir, Warren, Sixth, Marshall?
*maybe muir and warren might go switchy switchy?

The only thing is that the ERC area study or whatever seems really awful. But I suppose as long as I pick an interesting country (or region; not sure how it works) I will manage.

Also, is it safe to assume that if I put ERC first, I will get into it? Because if people are putting it last and placed in it, I assume they’re desperate for people to show any semblance of an interest. Haha

Only 2 things matter when picking a college: GEs and the living arrangements. Do NOT overlook the second point. Trust me, you don’t want to live in a place that you don’t like the atmosphere of.

I picked ERC because it was so beautiful architecturally, and the suites and rooms are bright and spacious. The GEs are tough, but manageable :)
