I found out my overall GPA dipped under a 3.00 to a 2.96 after my spring quarter, which violates the provisional admission contract resulting in my admission cancellation. My brother was in a life threatening accident during my spring quarter and my academic performances had dropped because of it. I have 250 words to write an appeal to give them a reason to reconsider my admission. What do you guys think of my chances? Either way it is not going to hurt to send in, just thought I'd get some insight into my situation. Thank you all for reading.

Bump, just sent in my 250 word appeal. I was just curious what you guys thought my chances were looking like given my situation? Your opinion is always welcome, thank you.

Well, you seem to have a good reasons or an appeal. But who knows really.

Ya I hope so…, just anxiously waiting from here on out…so far into the year already, would be extremely demoralizing to get rejected

Good luck kid!

Thanks dfin !

I just called the office today, and was notified it usually takes up to 10 business days which will be Wed. Aug 21. However, I have my biology orientation for UCSD Aug 21st, and have a plane ticket the 20th.

Should I just not attend this orientation(It is optional) or should I go as if I am still admitted to the school?

Every day gets me more and more rattled. Not getting into the school that I have tried so hard to get into because of a .04 GPA slump. Any other people have any similar situations of minor GPA violations?

I know it’s hard to not worry right now but worrying does absolutely nothing except make you more stressed out. I’m extremely confident you will keep your admission because your GPA was very close to 3.0 and you have a great reason. Many many people get back in after getting rescinded. Do not worry! Regarding the orientation, I would ask them about it. I’m sure they will get back to you before the 20th though.

You’re right, thanks for all the kind words! Appreciate it. The wait continues on…

my appeal was denied. another year at comm college…wonderful

I AM SO SORRY! That is very disappointing. Try to keep moving forward with optimism. Your education will be invaluable.

I know it’s super late in the game, but are there any CSUs that admitted you, but you turned down? Maybe you could just see if there’s a spot for you. Also, I heard that UC Riverside was kind of trolling for students. They were offering admission to some applicants who were rejected by other UCs. I’m not sure how true that is, but it’s what I heard.

San Jose state…but I’m not too fond of it, considering I’ve lived in the area my whole life. Just going to stay another year at CC…take easy classes + 1 tough class per quarter, coast through it, raise my GPA…and reapply to everything. (Not to mention much cheaper for the same classes)

Side Question:

Will I be using the same personal statement or is it different every year?

The UC essay prompts have been the same for a few years.

I would recommend editing it as next year comes around if the same admissions officer reads your statement they may look in the file from the previous application and see the same one and think that you may have changed nothing and you did not understand the first rejection.

Just my opinion, good luck at CC sorry that happened to you :/

I don’t see any reason to change your essay. It was good enough to get you admitted the first time around. And if your GPA was above 3.0 you would be going there this fall.

You should be fine reusing the same essay. I applied in back to back cycles and used the same essay with some minor edits and it served to get me readmitted/admitted into all of the UC’s the second time around. Bear in mind, UCSD thus far doesn’t use the essay for transfer admission purposes so there’s no way it can hurt you. It’ll only come into play if you apply to Berkeley, UCLA, UCI, Merced next year.
