Currently my GPA is a 3.1 and I still have summer and fall to raise my gpa. Realisticly I can get my GPA to a 3.4 by the end of Fall, I have lots of units so i need alot of As to make any change :(.

What are my chances at UCSD with a 3.4, obviously I wont be able to tag without the 3.5

Just a bit of background, I have an excellent grade trend, below is my list of semesters with the GPA next to them. All my classes after my 2.0 semester have been much harder as well (calculus, english, chemistry, etc.)

Fall 2009: 2.0
Spring 2010: 2.0
Summer 2010: 4.0
Fall 2010: 3.5
Spring 2011: 3.7

Still Left: Summer 2011 and Fall 2011

My major pre-reqs will all be done by the time I transfer as well as IGETC.

Really it’ll depend on how competitive your major is. I was accepted for the 2011-2012 year with a 3.25 GPA, as a Philosophy major. It’ll be harder next year cause of budget cuts, but it’ll depend mostly on how many people are trying to get into your major. I really don’t know much about Management Science, in my case I spoke to the UCSD transfer counselor about my chances, if your CC has one that would be who to ask next.

NO I didn’t TAG and when I talked they said the GPA cut off was 3.0. No special circumstances, ( none that I think are special) no TAG and in fact the UCSD counselor said that I was almost a slam dunk because my Major was not competitive.

The official UCSD TAG cutoff is 3.0 and normal transfer cutoff is 2.0 for most of the six colleges, but admissions told me the same cutoff of 3.8 existed due to all the TAG students they received this year. The reason for rejection is documented in your application file and most counselors are gracious enough to look it up. I could not TAG because of one class I could not complete prior to spring semester. Initially I was rejected for being below the 3.8 cutoff, but I submitted an appeal following a UCSD admission counselor’s recommendation, and the initial decision was overturned. Granted I have special circumstances explaining why my GPA dipped, strong ECs, solid work experience relating to my major, family responsibilities, and I’m a returning student/veteran, all of which undoubtedly contributed to a successful appeal.

@dwaynejohnson you must have gotten lucky like a few others having been admitted with a GPA below the cutoff. Or the cutoff may have been implemented after your application and a few others were reviewed.

To the original poster: Anything you can do to strengthen your application would be good. This year they had an unexpected influx of transfer students due to past and present budget cuts, resulting in stiffer competition all around. An increased and steady grade trend will help, but if at all possible TAG to UCSD.
