Reflection:

Strengths: essays, SAT’s, and recommendations

What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: my intellectual curiosity

Weaknesses: GPA and AP’s (very difficult school with limited options and class enrollment)

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: West Coast / Asian / GPA / Counselor Rec / EC’s

Other factors - the most unique thing in your application: I have had to adapt and live in several different places under several different circumstances; across 3 different continents with either or both parents;

Decision: Waitlisted
Major: Undeclared

Decision: Accepted
History major at Eleanor College
SAT: 2190
HS GPA (UW): 3.85

Good essays, okay ECs (lots of volunteering though)

Reflection: I’m quite surprised I got in, maybe because SD is not popular with prospective history majors? I heard Eleanor has a lot to do with history so I’m happy :smile:

Decision: Accepted

ACT: 34
UC GPA: 4.25
UW GPA: 3.96

In-state (In San Diego), Caucasian
Goodish Essays, I wrote about competing on swim team and making CIF and also about coming to the United States.
I’ve taken 9 AP classes including this year’s classes; I’ve taken 4 tests and got 5s on all 4.

Other schools:
Accepted: UC Irvine, SDSU;
Rejected: Cal Poly SLO, UC Davis
Waiting: UCLA, Cal, Cornell, Penn, Yale, Harvey Mudd, and Michigan.

Reflection: I’m not too optimistic about the other schools I’ve applied to after getting rejected at Davis. I know it’s very competitive, but I was really hoping to have Davis as an option–I feel like I’ve let myself down, it really sucks. Either way, I’m glad I got into UCSD as their program is ranked higher, but I was hoping to have options that were further from home. Congrats to everyone that got in! This admissions round has been vicious!

@jlev96 Do you code in any languages?

If so, make sure to be at least proficient in one of them and be comfortable with at least one coding paradigm; and not only Object-Oriented Programming.

Once you have that, I think you have a great shot at getting in because you might be well ahead of the curve.

But if you don’t code, I would not recommend choosing Computer Science if you only want it due to the money factor.

If you were accepted to UCSD as undeclared, can you try to get into an impacted major or can you only choose between the non-impacted majors?

ACCEPTED!

Applied for Financial Aid?: Don’t Qualify
State (if domestic applicant): CA
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: F
Income Bracket: Up there
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): N/A

Reflection:
I’m glad I got in. My extracurriculars are not as strong as those of other applicants but I think I wrote well enough to compensate.

Strengths:
What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: My essays were intriguing, creative, and above all - honest.
Weaknesses: Lack of SAT II
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Essays, SAT
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: UC Irvine (with Honors), UC Davis, University of San Diego, University of San Francisco, University of Portland
I’m waiting on UCLA, UCB, and Stanford (a long shot, haha). I just realized that means I have one decision each week until April lol.

It’s really crazy how I see all these stats that got rejected. My friend had a 3.8 (ranked 120/700) and 1800 SAT score and about 100 or so community service hours,and hardly any extracurriculars and that’s about it and got in. Super jealous and I think it’s very weird and unfair…

@ItsHydro‌ I am taking AP Computer Science and expect a 5 on the exam. I really enjoy the class and know that I want to do CS for reasons other than money. What could/should I do to help my chances of transferring into CS? Is there even a shot or am I doomed?

Does anyone know when the UCSD Medical Scholars Program interview notifications are sent out?

D accepted (by phone on Thurs)
Muir (1st choice)
Environmental Engineering (1st choice)

congrats to all! if you didnt get in, have faith that it wasn’t meant to be. you’ll all do wonderful things in life i promise:)

@prezbartlet‌ awesome name.

You can apply for acceptance to impacted majors usually after your first year. Applicants are ranked by prerequisite course GPA. Some are accepted, several are not

Switching into a non-impacted major does not require an application.

@imthereal okays,thank you for answering ! Really appreciate it :slight_smile:
