UCSD Class of 2019 Decisions/Discussion

I feel like im the only person on this forum that was rejected… :-<

@groverrohan‌ so I’d receive a packet from every university that I get accepted to, is that it?

@Digitallyshrewd‌ I can’t speak for the other universities but I’m sure they’ve all sent something out

Don’t worry too much about it. UCI sent me a CHP letter in February but they only sent the big envelope to me just last week. I’m sure it’s on its way.

I got into Muir too  Political Science major. Congrats!

Could anyone post a picture of how the acceptance package looks like? I’m so curious!

Does anyone know if the spaces overnight program acceptances came out yet?

So my intended major was Computer Programming which I was not accepted into, despite being accepted into UCSD… Is there any way I can change into the CS department (yes I am aware the Computer Science department is Impact) or am I fucked? I’m not interested in being an Environmental Chemist that much tbh… I’m pretty set on the CS field and I’m just straight up not going if there’s no way to transfer in by Sophomore year… fuck that noise.

Hi @groverrohan‌ ! I was wondering if you could give me some insight on what the social scene is like at UCSD and what kind of people attend there? I know there is obviously a wide variety of people, but what is the vibe like? Do people go exploring and hiking? Are people usually outgoing and friendly? Thanks!

@ChipFoggers‌ I also did not get into my first choice major because it was impacted. From what I have read up on it, you CAN switch to an impacted major, but you have to apply for it, meaning that during freshman year (or whenever you decide to switch) your grades have to be good, and then you might have a good shot of getting into the impacted major!

@tekaiteishu‌ I’ve been checking my email all day but nothing. I doubt they would release so late but I’m still hoping for something by tonight

Anyone know how waitlisting works at UCSD? My friend has near perfect stats (high UC GPA and 2300+ SAT) and she was waitlisted. She applied undeclared.

@senior2015‌ I looked on collegeboard and niche and both say the UCSD does not report wait list stats. Has she gotten in elsewhere?

Yeah that’s what I’ve gathered as well.

I still want to go to UCSD (Unless USC accepts me, unlikely), they offered me a bomb financial aid package and it’s in San Diego… but I don’t want to be locked into a field I really don’t want to major in.

Environmental Chemistry wasn’t even my backup major it was my minor…

@Schmosby‌ I got the email at 9 pm pst!

Hi @swimmer123456‌, while UCSD won’t have as many ragers as many similar schools, the Socially Dead stereotype is crap. If you want to party, you can definitely party (whether Greek or not). If you don’t want to party, you’ll still be able to find something to do with someone: there are malls, beaches, and restaurants all within a ten minute bus ride

In terms of vibe, I feel like it’s a weird mix of relaxed and focused. Like on one hand everyone’s freaking out about classes cause everything is so hard, but at the same time it’s hard to get too worked up when you’re that close to the beach? I dunno there’s a very SoCal vibe but at the same time you get the sense that we all have something to prove like why else would we be here

All kinds of people attend. I know that’s not the most useful answer, but you could literally describe any person and someone matching that description goes here. There’s also no real “one way” to describe an average UCSD student although I’m inviting all y’all other current Tritons to try

A lot of people go exploring and hiking. The UCSD park has 6k and 10k trails, and a five minute bus ride can take you up to Torrey Pines State Reserve which is dope for an easy hike. I’ve never really checked out Warren Canyon or Pepper Canyon but they’re on campus and probably accessible. Some of my friends also decided to randomly camp in the Mojave for a few days, and Outback Adventures and/or the UCSD Recreation department sponsor a lot of wilderness breaks that you can find online (somewhere). If you’re really into the nature scene, I have a friend who went on a Wilderness Orientation before fall quarter and loved it.

Hell yes people are outgoing and friendly! Everyone’s still here to have a good time and meet new people. Within your college you can easily form tight communities and still get to know loads of Tritons across campus.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
