UCSD Class of 2019 Decisions/Discussion

Waitlist stats from last year: http://■■■■■■■■■■■■/home/fall-2014-last-year-frosh-waitlist-appeal-cancellation-numbers/

@tekaiteishu‌ Me too! :slight_smile:

As a current student, congrats to all the admits, especially those of you who were admitted to a major in the engineering school for EE/CSE/CS/MAE/ect (because they are much harder to be admitted to due to their impacted status)

D applied to UCSD (and several other UCs), and then was accepted to her ED school back in December. She withdrew her application – at least she tried to, but apparently it’s not that easy to officially withdraw your app from the UCs (except for UCLA, who gives you a handy link to click). She sent emails to the admissions offices but in some cases was told to contact somebody else and in some cases never heard back at all, so she just didn’t know if she’d managed to actually withdraw.

So, you know the punch line – her acceptance to UCSD arrived last week. What’s the procedure for declining? Does she have to create an account just to decline?

Same question for UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz, just in case anyone knows the answer! (Apparently UC Berkeley and UC Santa Barbara actually received the app-withdrawn email, because she hasn’t heard from them.)

Decision: Accepted into Muir College for Theatre

oops they called me during the calling campaign I am so late to post

Objective:

SAT: 1980
GPA: lol
Rank: No clue
AP: AP European History (4), AP US History (4), AP Lang (5), AP Psych (5)
Senior Year Course Load: AP Lit, AP Human Geo, AP Art History, AP Gov/AP Econ, Chamber Singers, AP 2D Studio Art (I wonder if you can tell that I’m super arts/humanities oriented)
Major Awards: Umm I’ve received some state & national awards for singing/acting. I got one of those AP Scholar awards.

Subjective:

Extracurriculars: Choir (leadership board), theatre, instrumental music, modeling (idk if that counts as an extracurricular but it takes up some time so hey). I volunteered at a hospital at some point when my parents still thought I’m doing medicine like they are.
Job/Work Experience: I’ve been doing portrait & event photography professionally for almost three years now.
Personal Statement: I wrote about how I found out that singing is my passion and how it has changed my life–it’s an amusing tale. And my other was about my ethnic/religious background, which is confusing and wacky, and how it has shaped me as a human being. I missed a LOT of school the first two years of high school due to health issues so I mentioned that in the additional info section. I mostly focused on how I bounced back really quickly once I got better and how my grades reflect that.

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: Nah.
Intended Major : Theatre and hopefully a double major w/ International Studies
CA
Public school
Asian/black/white
Female
Income Bracket: ~200,000
Hooks: Probably URM even though I am mostly brown.

Reflection

Strengths: Being a brown girl pursuing theatre/music, artistic accolades, upward trend…
Weaknesses: GPA for sure. My SAT score isn’t really up to par either but it isn’t awful!
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: No clue dude. My supplement for the school of theatre probably helped.
Schools were you accepted/waitlisted to? UMN, UCI, BC, Northeastern, Redlands
Schools you were rejected from? UCSB (lul), UCLA, U of Michigan
Schools you are waiting for? USC, Berkeley, NYU, Carnegie Mellon
General Comments: USC, NYU, CMU, UCLA, and Michigan all auditioned me for their program. I’m glad I got into some non-audition “safeties” (compared to the 3% acceptance rates for BFA programs). I am surprised to find out that UCSD apparently has a fantastic theatre department which surprised me. I would love to learn more about it since I cannot seem to find enough info about it. The location is amazing and we’re excited that we can actually afford this school without aid considering we don’t qualify for financial aid at all anywhere.

Does anyone have any information on bioengineering: biosystems? Is it worth pursuing?

Does anyone have any information on bioengineering: biosystems? Is it worth pursuing?

Sorry for the double post >.<

@stressed4lyfe‌ I’m not sure, but I just wanted to say that we’re all just going in the vague direction of our interests. Very few of us are positive on our futures, so maybe its best if you have some interest in that field to just try and see. Most of us will end up changing our majors anyways. Sorry if that wasn’t any help.

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted - UCI, UCSB, UIUC (So far)

General Comments:
I love UCSD a lot. I visited it over the summer and loved the campus. The downside is that I got accepted for my alternate major, which was Biochem, rather than my first choice, Computer Science. UC Berkeley is my top choice which comes out in a few hours so we’ll see!

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I’m 99% sure I will be attending UCSD, and I am very, very grateful. Thank you UCSD for this amazing opportunity.

@missyuri‌ I don’t know much about the Department of Theatre and Dance itself, except that it is housed in Galbraith Hall (which is a pretty nice building with studios and offices and stuff). However, across the street from Galbraith is the UCSD Theatre District which has some beautiful performance spaces. There are three or four theaters, and the main one (Mandell Weiss Auditorium, I think) houses the renowned La Jolla Playhouse. Just thought I’d chip in, if you’re interested you can look up some of the proper nouns I listed.

[] Strengths: test scores (well actually just my ACT scores in my opinion; and definitely not my AP scores), ECs
[
] Weaknesses: GPA, AP scores, some of my SAT IIs, essays were risky
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Not quite competitive enough especially going into Bioengineering at UCSD. Waitlisted at UC Berkeley (as opposed to rejected) probably because I didn’t apply for an engineering major unlike how I also did for Davis and Irvine - also got waitlisted at those two (I know right, 4 UC waitlists?!). Also waitlisted at UChicago. Rejected from USC, UCLA, and Northwestern. Accepted to UCSB and glad I have that to fall back on.[/li][/ul]General Comments: Good Luck!!! (I received my decision on Friday, March 13th but just didn’t post about it until now.)

Decision: Accepted (Muir College) for Economics

Objective:

SAT: 2130
SAT2: Math 2 800, Chemistry 760, Math 1 770, Biology E 700
GPA: no idea
Rank: 1/30 (yes, a very small school)
AP: No AP, I do the full IBDP
Senior Year Course Load: HL Chemistry, HL Math, HL Economics, HL Biology, SL English Literature, SL French
Major Awards: Some national academic awards, nothing big.

Subjective:

Extracurriculars: instrumental music, volunteering, dance choreography, MUN (president and chair), TEDx (secretary), Football co-captain, Badminton singles player, etc. Basically really good ones, some leadership.

Job/Work Experience: None

Personal Statement: The first one I wrote about my community being in the school football team (really cliché, I know), but I put time into it, so I thought it was written okay 8/10. The second one was about my family and what I learnt from them. Again, cliché.

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: Nope. Not eligible
Intended Major : Economics
Private school
Country: India
Asian Female
Income Bracket: ~200,000
Hooks: None.

Reflection

Strengths: Probably my predicted score, and the fact that I’m doing 4 HLs instead of the standard 3. Plus SAT2s.
Weaknesses: Essays, and lack of job experience.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: See strengths above
Schools were you accepted/waitlisted to? UIUC, UCLA, UCBerkeley, UMich, UCSD, NYU
Schools you were rejected from? Northwestern, Stanford
Schools you are waiting for? none
General Comments: Well, competition is super tough, and I note that I got into all of my public schools, and none of my private schools (with the exception of NYU). Sucks that their intake is low, and ethnicity is a factor for them. Oh well. Muir is good enough for me!

Hi guys I was accepted to ucsd but I just submitted a change of application in regards to my schedule. I dropped tennis because I was injured. Do you guys think this will give me any chance of getting rescinded? Just a little worried because ucsd is my top choice
