UCSD Class of 2019 Decisions/Discussion

@tritonman714‌ I don’t think that will seriously affect your app, especially because you have a valid reason. Tennis is counted an ECA, so should be fine. Better make sure and call directly, that’s the best way.

So I was admitted as undeclared since my two choices were impacted. However, I changed my mind and want to major in Microbiology now, which isnt impacted. Will I be able to declare that major right away (like I was accepted as Microbio)?

@Rattle‌ yes

I got admitted for physics. Is there any way for me to change to bioengineering any time soon ?

@fishynoodle: This is from the UCSD website for BME:
Q: Can I still apply for Bioengineering or Bioengineering: Biotechnology majors if I was admitted to UCSD with a different major?
A: No, The only way for a student to become a Bioengineering or Bioengineering: Biotechnology major as a freshman at UCSD is to be directly admitted from high school at the time of entrance into UCSD.

@fishynoodle‌ @Gumbymom‌ WHOA not exactly. As a freshman, that’s the only way to get in. However, as a continuing student (usually a sophomore), you can switch into any of the four bioengineering majors the summer after your first year. However, this is not a guaranteed switch; there is an application process after which students with the highest prerequisite GPAs are admitted into the major.

http://www.jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/academic/academic_undergrad/my_major.shtml This is the application for switching to impacted majors. I believe you need to have completed a certain number of classes at UCSD before you can transfer in. Hopefully this clears things up a bit; if it confuses you more, feel free to ask follow-up questions. Congratulations on your admission!

@fishynoodle‌ BE department phrased it better than I did: “As an entering Freshman, if you either apply but are not accepted into the “impacted” Bioengineering, Bioengineering: Biotechnology; Bioengineering: Bioinformatics or Bioengineering: Biosystems major directly from high school, OR if you didn’t initially apply to one of those majors, you will be able to apply “one time only” to one of the four “impacted” majors in the first week of school in the subsequent fall quarter, as you begin your Sophomore year as a “Continuing” student.”

Hi everyone! I’m new to college confidential, and I’m curious if anyone else got accepted to Marshall college as a human bio major? No one else at my school got into UCSD, that I know of anyway. Also, is anyone going to Triton Day tomorrow? So excited! Hopefully it helps me make a decision, I can’t decide between UCSD and UCI. Ahh!!

Anyone going to Triton day tomorrow? :smiley: so excited !

I’m going to Triton day! Yay!

@Katiered15‌
I also got accepted as a human biology major to Marshall college

@Indubitab1y
Cool! Maybe I will see you. I don’t know anyone going to UCSD…like no one lol

I got into UCSD as a neuroscience major and am highly considering attending, but didn’t receive Regents Scholarship… I have high stats (4.57 W, 3.92 UW, 35 ACT, 800 & 790 in SAT IIs) and great extra curricular… Do you think it’s possible for me to contact the scholarship office and ask them to reconsider me for Regents?

@ignitescience‌
How do you know you weren’t offered the Regents scholarship? Did they release all scholarship info yet, because I’m waiting on info

@Katiered15‌ I wasn’t notified about Regents, so I’m assuming that i didn’t… But, I’m not sure because i haven’t received my financial aid info yet

@katiered15 and @ignitescience: from a previous post:

“for those who is anticipating regents and did not get a call(like me), to find out you have to click “continue to review my admission offer” then on “my financial estimate” then “continue to awards” and it should say so there”

On our financial estimate two years ago, it showed $2000 award labeled Regent Scholar. Hope this helps.

@jjcollege‌ Thanks for the info! I turned in my FAFSA a week ago, so i can’t check my financial aid estimate, which means that there is no way for me to check haha maybe i should wait a little bit before i contact the school …

Hi! I just had a question for you about paying for oos uc costs. Did you get a scholarship? If so, what type? Are you planning on going, or it is just not a possibility? Really any financial advice (from anyone) would be invaluable at this point. Thank you!!

I haven’t heard anything with regards to scholarships @tigerss. But work study is a great option for handling those off the wall fees, and yard sales and family card game/bunco nights are great for raising money for those last minute costs, like parking passes and housing contract deposits. Hope I helped! Good luck

Anyone know anything about Eleanor Roosevelt College? I chose ERC and I got in, but I keep hearing such horrible things about it :frowning: What are the good/bad qualities of ERC?
