University California Riverside
@seemoore Did they have great essays? I think essays are being looked at more closely this year.
@vimyle Can you explain to me about what’s wacky about UCD this year? x) I haven’t followed with acceptances, so I wouldn’t know how it’s any different, it’d be great if I could briefly know what’s up with UC’s this year compared to the previous years.
It’s just frustrating cause ucsd hasn’t clarified what they’re doing. Apparently last year acceptances came out in waves.Who knows what will happen this year :-??
You guys are breaking my heart!!!
My S1 is at UCSD and I don’t remember going through any of this last year.
My D has decided she is definitely going to UCR they gave her quite a bit of $$$
So we are no longer stressing, anything else will be icing on the cake.
Just wanted to point out to you all a positive there was 1 last hour this weekend!
Best of to all of you! I’m sure what happens is what is meant to be, even if it doesn’t seem so at the time.
@alphabetatrig you’ve heard of waitlists?
Got to love AutoCorrect, SMH
My positive point was there was 1 less hour this weekend, hang in there all!!!
@Velouria Sure! I’m not too familiar with the acceptance history of Davis either, but based on this year’s acceptances, it seems that many people with high GPAs and SAT/ACT scores or people who are “overqualified” were either rejected or wait listed. Many people with lower scores were accepted. Perhaps they became more holistic in their acceptances, or they became more concerned with their yield.
@vimyle Interesting to hear! I wonder if that’ll impact how class of 2020 performs, but I’m sure most everybody in class of 2020 are outstanding students who worked quite hard in their own ways.
Thanks for the information!
I believe there will be more acceptances this year. Last year, 78 students from my school applied to UCSD and 32 got in. This year, 74 applied and only 4 have gotten in according naviance. That literally doesn’t make any sense, unless naviance hasn’t updated. Don’t give up guys!! I genuinely believe there are more acceptances to come.
@canyouacceptmepls For Naviance, you have to manually input your acceptances right? I’m afraid that the low numbers are just because people haven’t updated their acceptances yet
but I am sincerely hoping there are more acceptances coming in
Whoo… This feels more pressure than taking the actual SAT 5 times in a row HAHA. I don’t think I can wait for another week. #:-S
By looking over this forum and hearing about people in my school, I think having the most deligent stats (act/sat scores, gpa, etc.) are not always the right way to get admitted to colleges…
@deepblueocean I agree. I’m glad some schools are becoming more holistic in their acceptances and looking at the applicants as a whole, and not just based on numbers.
I’m not trying to be pessimistic but UCIrvine did this last year. Students waited for the next “waves” only to find out that if they weren’t accepted in the first batch they were wait listed in the second “wave” and rejected in the third. Cal poly did the same thing this year.
Ignorance is bliss but come on guys it’s time to face reality.
@vimyle Yeah, I am glad that colleges are doing that. I just wish I knew it before. I took some classes in high school because everyone went crazy qnd said those classes are essential to get inti colleges. Apparently, that was false.
@deepblueocean I’m assuming the classes you’re referring to are AP/IB classes? If so, it definitely wouldn’t hurt to take those classes. It actually benefits you, not only making you a better applicant but also preparing you for the courses you will take in college. I’m sure you made the right choice!
@pleaseacceptme99 You can always talk about your opinion, but you shouldn’t enfore your opinion because people don’t agree with you. But I see your point.
@vimyle Haha I hope it did.
@deepblueocean you’re right. It’s just my opinion based on previous trends. It’s just sad to see people stressing so much over this and refreshing their portal all weekend.
I got waitlisted at Davis but haven’t heard back from UCSD yet and its like my #1
What do you guys think of my stats?
UC GPA: 4.0
