UCSD Class of 2021 Discussion/Decisions

@voltthorn apparently pretty damn hard

I’m an American who lives abroad. I don’t have a UC GPA, but my IB predicted grade and new SAT score are fairly strong. Are students like me called as part of the calling campaign?

So they call during the late evening I guess and the campaign extends until the 20 somethings of March?

@whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy worrisome :frowning: Just gotta hope it works out. I didn’t know it was that selective.

@voltthorn Don’t worry; they admit into the university before they admit into major! So you could get into UCSD, even if not for CS

@wormholes oh thank god I applied to Bio which I now realize is incredibly competitive and I was worried I completely ruined my chances for admission.

@nervous17yearold Nope! If you put an uncapped major as your alternate, you will get into that if you don’t get int your first-choice. If not, then you’ll get in as undeclared. What did you put as your alternate?

@wormholes I have a 33 ACT and a 40/42 IB. I hope that’s good enough! What are the stats for CS majors usually?

@voltthorn I’m in IB too, and those look like good stats for CS, I think you don’t have much to worry about. And @ByteZz I am pretty sure the calling campaign is just U.S. right now? That’s all I have heard from but I could be wrong

@voltthorn I have no idea! I just know it’s a super competitive major.

I am an international student. Can you calculate my chances?

Sat score: 1320( my only weakness, NEW one), and 1920(old SAT)

IB predicted score: 41/42 took Biology HL(7/7), English HL(7/7), Turkish Lit HL(7/7) Only Visual Arts was 6.

Major applied: Molecular Biology/alternative one is Neuroscience

GPA: don’t know my UC GPA but 90/100 in total; 12th first semester is 96.50/100 11th was 92/100 10th was 91/100
In my country if you are above 80 it is A. I don’t know the A+ or A- scales but 80+ are all As.

Extracurriculars: Have strong extracurriculars(have Cornell publication and a lot more, High Honors Certificate, Mathematics Awards twice and got a degree, 5 community works written on UC application, professional piano player, Biology Awards… 30 written on UC application and others on by website)

@wormholes lol I put biochem as my first choice and molecular bio as my second so chances are I’m getting admitted undeclared (IF I get in).

I applied for CSE first and Bio 2nd. I got in as bio :/. Although earlier comments are right, UCSD doesn’t admit by major, they just admit. Although as I understand it switching to an impacted major is rather difficult; you need really good grades first quarter and then need to transfer.

@nervous17yearold ohh ok yeah that’s why it’s usually recommended that you put an uncapped major as your alternate. Are you ok with getting in as undeclared?

@wormholes yeah that’s fine. getting in is my main concern.

No call for me, just gotta keep praying i guess lol. Really regret putting bio for all of the UCs i applied to

Do you still get into undeclared if it’s not your alternate major?

@coffee1999 if both your first-choice and alternate majors are capped, and you don’t get into your first-choice, chances are you’ll get in undeclared.

@wormholes oh okay that makes sense I thought that you had to put it as your alternate major that’s why I have Human Biology as my first choice and undeclared as my second choice

I received the special reception invitation for the Bay Area yesterday at about 4:30 pm.
Stats:
Mechanical Engineering
4.2 capped UC GPA, 4.45 weighted GPA
34 ACT
