UCSD Class of 2021 Discussion/Decisions

How competitive is the public health major at UCSD?

@voltthorn i dont think people work on saturdays :stuck_out_tongue: lol

@mafi4rmy hahaha exactly why I asked the question in the first place

@voltthorn it’ll probably be tomorrow then?

@kaiberrypie I got the phone call on Tuesday as well and still don’t have an e-mail about that, either. I think that they will send it out after our portals update.

@voltthorn I think he was referring to the dates from last year. This year on the calendar from one of the UCSD websites it said the campaign was supposed to have started on the 1st but as we know no one actually started getting calls until two days ago. I’m fairly confident that decisions will be released tomorrow just because they don’t usually wait THAT long in between calling and normal decisions

@voltthorn March 11 was a Friday last year.

Do calls go to everyone in the top 30% of applicants? So if I don’t get a call before decisions, does that mean no regents?

It obviously is too late regardless, but I have to ask:

I self-reported two ACTs. When I took my first one, the writing scale was 1-36, and I got a 33 on writing. I then took the ACT again, but this time, the Writing scale was 2-12. I got an 11 on Writing and reported that.

UCSD will understand that the 11 is a near-perfect writing score rather than a 22 point drop, correct?

One more question:

I am out-of-state and took two “visual arts” classes my Freshman year. However, during my Senior year, I learned that one of these classes did not satisfy the a-g requirement. So, I picked up another visual arts course my Senior year.

The two courses I took were:
“Visual Arts” (Freshman year, 1 semester)
“Drawing” (Senior year, 1 semester)

Do these satisfy the a-g requirements? They are in the same discipline, but as an out-of-state student, am I required to take them in the same year? Does it matter that they were a few years apart?

@poliscihopeful7 Since you put the date of the ACT on your application, they should be able to know that the scoring method was different between the two. Not sure completely about the VPA requirements, though. I would think that it would count.

@yuccatree thanks! I really hope so. It would suck to get denied on a technicality like that, even though I’d never know if that was the case…

@poliscihopeful7 I see that you got accepted to SDSU. The VAPA requirements are the same for CSU and UC so, if your classes were good enough for SDSU, they are probably good for the UCs as well. Of course, I’m not in admissions or anything so don’t know with certainty. This chart might help. http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/csu-uc-a-g-comparison-matrix.pdf

@yuccatree thanks, it just doesn’t make sense cause the deadline for those applications is March 15th I believe. I ended up calling them and I was told that they should be sent soon

So guys…will tomorrow be the day???

@lkg4answers thank you so much! That put my mind at ease!!

Were there many people last year who got called after the portal was updated?

@wormholes I really hope so… I can’t take another week of waiting! The stress is killing me.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the decision date is next week :frowning: According to the admissions office, the calling campaign would keep going next week. But calling students after they already know they are accepted kinda defeats the purpose of winning the hearts of those anxious top admits.
However, if there were many students who got called after Mar.11 last year, then tomorrow might still be the big day

@TheWave01 noo :frowning: so the admissions office said the calling campaign continues next week? But couldn’t that just be calling admitted students to try and convince them to choose UCSD? Also, UCD is strongly rumored to come out tomorrow, and UCSD and UCD are usually released on the same day. Also, UCLA is rumored for the 17th, and it’s unlikely that UCSD would release the same week as UCLA (it has always been a week prior). Idk, what do you think?
