@websensation I got waitlisted for Comp Sci, is that better than getting admitted as undeclared instead?
UC GPA: 4.25
ACT: 34
.
Calling your bs #1431. Aren’t you a war refugee too? Go be bored somewhere else.
I find it interesting that so many Engineering and CS applicants are being accepted as Undeclared. At least at a school like UW, they get admitted as pre-ME or pre-CS if they aren’t a direct admit. Why does UCSD think that an applicant that wants to pursue, say Aerospace Engineering, is going to want to attend if they can’t get their major? Also, since Undeclared is an actual selection on the application, why are those students being considered for an option that they didn’t select? I could understand if a student picks CS as choice #1, and then the alternate they select is Undeclared, but that doesn’t sound like that is what is happening.
I have a D that applied for ME at all of her schools of choice a couple of years ago. She would not have considered going to a school that didn’t accept her into ME. In fact, while UW was one of her top choices, she declined because she wasn’t a direct admit to ME. She was waitlisted at UCSD, but I believe it was for her major, and she didn’t opt-in. Are waitlisted students still waitlisted for their major of choice?
I realize this is a bit of a hijack. My current D, that did apply Undeclared, was declined. Tbh I am not surprised, and she is not disappointed. She has her sights on a different UC, she has a couple of good choices already, and she is seriously considering going to a CC and TAGing her UC of choice if she doesn’t get in. So this really is just an observation and expression of confusion over what UCSD is thinking, no sour grapes here.
@InfiniteLibrary: Just a parent that has gone through the CSU/UC admission process with my kids, nieces, nephews etc… and tries to keep up with the process. There is a lot of information I was not aware of when my 1st son applied, so if I can pass on any helpful information that I have found, hopefully other students will have a better understanding of the process.
@FinesseDolphin: If you are waitlisted, most likely if accepted off the waitlist, you will be either admitted into your alternate major or undeclared. Switching into CS is extremely competitive and here is a link to explain the process:

Got into alternative major… probably not going
@Gumbymom Awesome! You’re the best!
@Versalia Yep it’s best you emailed them. I hope you get your choice
@Me4UCSD I’m in the same position, have you figured out how to reverse it? I think if I just leave it and don’t finish the process, it might default back later?
@apples4 it looks like s/he is also posting using the name BluDawgs. See post 639 on the UCLA board and compare. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20379121#Comment_20379121
@InfiniteLibrary thank you!
Accepted for CS, Sixth (1st choice lmao).

I’m happy to have gotten in! Not sure if I’ll attend, but it’s always a possibility. I found it funny that I was waitlisted at Davis though xD
D accepted to Thurgood Marshall (1st choice) - CogSci
SAT 1480 (23 essay)
UW GPA 3.97, 9APs (so weighted GPA… 4.3-something?)
Lots of music and athletic ECs (but not a recruited athlete)
Other acceptances: Cal Poly (CompSci), SJSU & CSULB (Industrial Design), UC Davis (Design), Northeastern (CS+Design), U of Rochester (Brain & Cognitive Sciences), CO-Boulder & HI-Manoa (Environmental Design).
@amursoc You were waitlisted for Davis?
Everything seems so random!
@BunnyBlue , thanks for the info. Based on your son’s stats, I am sure he will get into both UCLA and UCB.
Applied to CS, accepted as undeclared!
Very disappointed! UCSD’s CS dept has only 17% girls, yet female applicants with strong CS interest are shown the door!
Decent stats; 35 ACT, SAT MATH 2-800, 7 AP taken already, all scores of 5,5 AP senior year, NMF, fluent in java, python etc. lots of national, state (one international) award. Presidential commendation for community service. Leadership awards. Excellent essays (according to school GC and AP English teacher and few others). Play two instruments at advanced level…
Yep, must mention, Asian from an affluent zip code! Parents have Ph.d’s. No hooks at all.
Will not attend UCSD. Too risky.

Stil waiting on UCLA, UCSB, UCI, and Cal
Anyone get an email inviting them to apply for their overnight program? And what are the chances an invited applicant has of getting it?
@lkg4answers Yeah, it was lucky we spotted that change, since it was apparently just posted yesterday. I think S2 might have risked going to UCSD if they still had the old system where you compete with your GPA to get into CSE because UCSD was his #1 choice. But now that it is mostly a lottery, the chances of getting in are too low to take the chance. Luckily he got the “likely email” from UCLA yesterday. Nice of them to time the email with UCSD and UC Davis decisions! So his choices will be between Regents at UC Santa Barbara and UC Davis, and a regular acceptance at UCLA.
I hope you get off the waitlist for Cog Sci if that is what you want. That is interesting that that seems to be the only non-impacted choice left for CS wannabes.
In-state, accepted for Chem Engineering (2nd Choice), Revelle (1st Choice)
Made a ballsy move and applied to UCSD as my safety… Not a good idea. If any juniors are lurking, be smarter than me and choose a different school for your safety. I was sweating bullets right up until the portal loaded for me this morning.
Scores/GPA:
34 ACT, 800 on Math II, Chem, Math I, 770 US History SAT IIs
4.1 UC GPA, top 5% of class.
All APs were 5s, except for AP Physics, which was a 4.
ECs: Assorted, with leadership and volunteering
Essays: I personally did not think very highly of my essays…
