Guys this is so random btw why do they admit more students than the available seats? Will anyone be rejected or something?
@shamim99: All schools admit more applicants than spots since not all admitted students will enroll. Usually the UC’s admit around 3x as many applicants as spots available. If they under enroll, then they go to their waitlist to fill in the empty spots.
@gumbumom : Will they reject anyone after being admitted?

@shamim99 no they’ll never reject you once you’re already accepted. Last year (or two years ago, forgot which) they overenrolled and had to scramble to find people housing since first and second years are guaranteed on-campus housing.
All colleges are like that btw, once you’re accepted you can’t be rejected unless you fail your classes second semester senior year (each has its own contract with slightly diff details, but for UC’s you can’t get any C’s second semester)
Accepted as undeclared

Thank you.
“Students may apply for a change of major into the CSE department a maximum of two times (not including applications submitted previous to the 2017-2018 academic years)”
Does the “two times” mean max 2 times in my UCSD Undergrad or 2 every year?

OOS as well. Yes, oos are expected to pay full price , but may be offered federal loans. We were only offered $4700. A coach asked my son if we could afford it because UCs cannot give any financial aid to oos and his sport gives no money either. I think a law was passed in 2016 stating no financial aid to oos because UC is in financial trouble and need the oos extra tuition money.
My son was accepted- second choice major physics with specialization astrophysics. He actually was on the fence between physics and electrical engineering, so either were good options for him.
GPA: 4.45
UC GPA: 4.2
Top 7% of graduation class, 742 students at a top 200 public HS
All AP junior and senior year and some sophomore year- good scores; AP Scholar
We have a fast track math program for qualifying students so senior yr, he attended CC in afternoon for linear algebra and Calculus 3 and additionally took the art requirement for UCs at the CC. Our states required by law 4 yrs PE which really makes it difficult to fit in electives since need 2 yrs foreign Lang in HS and most kids take 3-4+ ( they start in jr. high, can take through AP 6 at our HS)
ECs: over 350 hours volunteering, math tutor, NHS 2 yr, Mu Alpha Theta Nat’l Math Honor Society 3 yrs, Science Club, Cross Country, Volleyball- both club and HS- many awards and titles, 3rd in State, 3rd at Nationals with club team, team capatian many years for HS and club.
Cal residents: so many of you have exceptional stats. I wonder if you are rejected, waitlisted, or undeclared because you are getting into other UC schools so UCSD knows you have other great choices. Do the UCs collaborate and maybe are not letting you into all of them that you applied? We don’t have anything like your UC system in our state- and you have one of the least expensive in-state costs. You are very lucky to have so many great choices within your state. Many students from my state go oos because schools do not give any money to the average middle income students, so why not travel and get a new experience. My daughter is at BU for the same we would pay at UIUC- and she loves it!
Not sure my son will go here. It’s his dream school, but we thought with third child in college, we would qualify for federal grant ( max is $5800- we didn’t get any). My son has other great choices with large academic scholarships that would be hard to turn down. $50K/yr is a lot to pay.
@ILvball The UCs do not communicate, they do not know if an applicant has applied to or been accepted into other UCs
Accepted.

Also, anyone know anything about the 3-day overnight stay invitation? Is that just for regents or is there some other qualification?
