UCSD Class of 2021 Discussion/Decisions

Not that I know of, not yet

Congrats!

@gureum got it!

@2017collegetime UCSD by a long shot. It’s not even close.

I know this is the UCSD page but when is UCB coming out? This Friday or next Friday?

@magopieces Next Thursday

I got into UCSD for Molecular Biology and UCLA for Cell, Developmental, and Molecular Biology, and I’m planning on going to medical school. I love both schools but I’m unsure which would provide me with better research opportunities, which has the stronger Biology program, and which is more likely to get me into medical school. Also, which one is easier to get a high GPA?? Please let me know. Thank you :slight_smile:

I made a thread about my above question so if any of you would please comment and help me, that would be much appreciated :slight_smile: thank you!! the link is below:

Do you apply for housing right after you submit your SIR? It says you can right after you do it but I’m not ready to submit it just yet. I just want to make sure I’m in the running for a single room.

@angelicluna99: As a Freshman do not count on getting a single room even if were the first one to apply for housing. With many of the UC’s, you are lucky to get a double.

@Gumbymom I wouldn’t agree completely. I know a guy who got a single room, freshman year. A few of his friends (also freshmen) have singles too.

Can I apply for housing before I submit my SIR? And If I submit it later this month, will there be no dorms available for me and I’d have to live in overflowed apartments?

@trapszn My EC’s are also good? I went to ICDC and I currently have a 2390 SAT and a 4.85 GPA. So, there is no correlation between you getting a call and being a scholarship candidate. I am going to be more successful than you.

Is Marshall a hard college?

@santeeeee no, Marshall has the second least GE’s

Sorry if this is bit late!

Hi, I have a question. I’m taking AP Chemistry this year and was planning on taking the AP Test, but then I heard if i take it and I pass, at UCSD I’ll have to take the honors series for chemistry which is extremely difficult and almost impossible to get an A in. If I take the AP Chem test and pass, do I have to take the honors series for chemistry or can I take the regular chem 7? Please let me know :slight_smile: thank you!

DS is a US citizen born/ educated in the UK school system. Accepted to Biochemistry and Muir.

EC’s are not a focus in the UK, but was on the “varsity” Rugby team for three years, Crew for two years, Field Hockey for two years (team made it to the regionals last year and nationals this year) and was captain of his American Football team (community sport outside of school) for two years. Nothing else by US standards, was admitted into a very selective summer programme at UK universities in biomedical engineering for two years. Spends a lot of time composing and recording music in his home studio. Works 12-15 hours/week delivering restaurant take-out orders by bicycle.

Waitlisted at UCLA (didn’t want to be in LA, I made him apply!), awaiting UCB next week. Very excited for UCSD!

This is interesting. Maybe this Data Science grant will help to take some of the pressure off CS and its overflow into Math-CS and CogSci. Though unfortunately most of the impact will come too late for this entering class.
