UCSD Class of 2021 Discussion/Decisions

Hi, I also got accepted to UCSD like many of you in this thread, so first congrats!
I’m 80% UCSD and 20% UCLA for which college I’m going to, I want to attend triton day first to see if UCSD really fits me. (My college was Warren)
Please DM on instagram @ohitskay if you are going to triton day or considering UCSD too! (I want to get to know possible future classmates)

Is there a groupme?

TRITON DAY MEETUP, ANYONE?!

Decision: Admitted, Undeclared in Physical Sciences (debating on law or environmental engineering though)
GPA: 3.48 Unweighted
Class Rank: 48/600
SAT: 1360 (680 Reading, 680 Math) (only took it once during junior year lol)
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Many EC’s, including Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Basketball, Senior Class Vice President, Key Club, Outdoor Club, Varsity Quiz
Out of State (Las Vegas, NV)
Inner City, Title 1 School, “Victory School”
School is majority hispanic (about 85%)
Essays: Pretty good, talked about my affinity for geography and maps
Ethnicities: Korean/Middle Eastern/White
No scholarships but offered work study and student loans
My question is: Is this school worth it for me to pay out of state tuition to go here? It would be pretty expensive, but do you guys think the education and experience here is worth it?

@solomonf99 current student here, I’d say yes just because you’ll be much better off here than in the Nevada system (UCSD kicks UNLV and UNR’s asses in anything academic, especially poli sci and environmental sht)

I got accepted into UCSD with a sad sat score of 1200. Weighted GPA of 4.2 at highschool. Took community college courses so that is unweighted so 4.0 but communty college courses are treated as an extra point so technically including my community collee courses i have about a 4.5.
My major: human biology
College: muir.

Hey I got accepted into Marshall undecided! 3.4 out of 4.0 GPA, 35 ACT.
I really want to do CS or CE. Anyone know how the major applicaiton process works here? I’m also deciding between UCSD, UWash-Seattle (pre-eng.) and UIUC (admitted for CE already). Anyone got advice on what’s best?

@siyans Getting into your major off the bat is valuable. S1 went with UCSD over UCB in part because he had his major. But that being said, UCSD is great and there are some alternate related majors you might be able to get into if CSE itself doesn’t work out. The CSE GPA cut-off gets very competitive I understand.

Hey could anyone tell me about ERC?

@patertrium A few weeks ago UCSD changed how you get into a CSE major for those entering in the fall. They no longer compete with GPA. Now you have to get a 3.3 GPA in the required prerequisites, and then you are entered into a lottery that determines who gets in.

Honestly with that whole lottery methodology, I would cross off ucsd. My daughter got into ucsd applied math and we are attending triton day. Udub though is her top choice even though she is pre-science. Unless ucsd or UCSB, when we visit, just completely wows her, she will be going to udub.

UCSD was my S2’s number one choice for CS, but he got admitted undeclared, so he will be going elsewhere.

Hey everyone! I’ve committed to UCSD as a Literature major and am in Muir College. Feel free to follow me on instagram at an1ya_ to chat!!! Super excited to get to know you guys!

When exactly do we apply for housing?

@angelicluna99 when you sign your SIR the next couple or even next page that it leads you to will ask you if you wish to apply to housing it is after you sign your SIR

are there any official class of 2021 group chats on fb or anything so we can all talk to each other and find roomates?

Hi! Does anyone know how and when I can preference a type of room(single) in the residential halls for housing? I submitted the housing application but I couldn’t find an option where I could put that I prefer being in a single. Do I do that in the housing contract? Please let me know. Thank you!
