I don’t do well under time restrictions thus the SAT score but I did work my ass off these 4 years so I hope they look at my EC, GPA, and essays more than just my SAT score cause I know it sucks. ?
Watch UCLA move to the same day as Berkeley because of “yield” and then UCSD follow along… I’ll just go crazy at that point lmao
@collegebound2023 People have gotten in with much lower scores and less ECs. So, I’d say your story trumps all scores you can get. Additionally, if you come from a lower-income or First-Gen background, thats a even bigger application boost, cause you can literally get away with more of everything. But sweat my friend, you’ll find somewhere you’ll love.
Trust me, I know some of my classmates who have 4.7s and have worked their life out in these 4 years but got rejected from the top engineering schools like MIT and CALTECH just this week. I feel for them, but I honestly think it has alot to do with personal qualities, unique individual ECs, success given struggle in life, and etc. So scores aren’t everything, remember that!
Its always nice to read messages like yours yours since I have been so caught up with how sucky my SAT score is. Anyways I wish everyone the best of luck and hope they end up doing whatever they love in life even if they do not get into their 1st choice.
Hey, may be its good that it did not come out today:
Caesar:
Who is it in the press that calls on me?
I hear a tongue shriller than all the music
Cry “Caesar!” Speak, Caesar is turn’d to hear.
Soothsayer:
Beware the ides of March.
Caesar:
What man is that?
Brutus:
A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March.
Hey guys, or @Gumbymom or @10s4life
Do the UC’s ever post decisions over the weekend? Just a hopeful thought hehe.
@college2019bound No, staff have the weekends off.
I was rejected by Davis also. SAT 1520, GPA UW 3.78, W 4.65. 10 AP classes, and IB degree. Good EC. I am afraid that I will be rejected by UCSD. I really don’t understand this college admission process
Also, SAT math 800 and chem 750
I got into UC Davis woo! SAT 1230, GPA UW 3.34. No Ap classes.
Davis went heavy on yield protection this year. It’s unfortunate because it may make the whole admission process seem arbitrary, but you’re very qualified for UCSD.
This is the reason I don’t understand it. It is very frustrating. My confidence is totally destroyed. Now, I am uncertain with UCSD and other UC. Congrats on your acceptance
How screwed do you guys think I am with these stats? (Someone chance me please)
Major : Biomedical Engineering (why)
GPA: 3.67 UW (lol), 3.92 UC GPA
SAT: 1420, 19 essay
ECs: XC 4 Years and Track 4 Years, Varsity Track for 2 years, Varisty XC for one year.
I have work experience too that I put down.
APs: AP Euro (5), AP Lang (5), AP Bio (3)
Felt my essays were pretty damn good.
Even if I don’t get into UCSD, would these stats be okay-ish for UCI at all? Just want this college season to end so I can just sleep all day zzzzzzzzz.
@Karate111 what is your UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/ and what major?
I think it is a probably a 4. Major is Biomedical Engineering. Also attended summer school at UCI ( intro to biomedical engineering) and the COSMOS program at UCI to demonstrate my interest in my major
@Karate111 It is just too easy to apply to UCD, as a safety, for a student that is applying to, and targeting, another higher ranked UC school.
This seems to be the biggest problem with UCs. They are all competitive and are up there in the US News rankings. To stay up there, they need to have their yields high. UCD’s yield has been falling (last I checked). Thus, they want to cut off the students that statistically they do not get anyway.
Most likely this is what happened. You looked to them like you would go elsewhere. E.g., in your essays you never mentioned your love of bicycling or your love of smaller towns or any of a million other things that Davis would identify with. Consequently, in combination with your higher stats, the reader immediately put you in the “unlikely to accept our offer” bucket.
Basically, the main problem here is that they let you apply with one application, thus hurting themselves on yield. But, then, they announce their decisions on different dates (and don’t even tell you when these dates are). That is just torture. If they had you apply in the same unified manner, they should at least have the decency to let all of the decisions come out in a unified manner at the same time.
In any case, you should be fine. But, you are a casualty of a faulty system with respect to UCD rejection.
@Karate111 Given your post #334, which I did not see when writing #335, I would think that UCI would be on the opposite end of the spectrum of “likely to accept our offer” criteria.
Is global health impacted in UCSD
Anybody got accepted please share
@gkalman Thanks for your encouraging words. The UC system is indeed broken.
