UCSD college for transfer students

Does the college (of the 6 colleges) you get into matter for transfer students going to UCSD? If you're done with IGET-C, technically you wouldn't need to take any more GEs right?

If not, which college do you think is best for Poli-sci?

You still need to take classes according to the college you’re in…

Only if you’re in Revelle or ERC… otherwise you’re done if you finish IGETC

What are the addition ones? do i guys have TAG, is that a important program for transfering from CCC?

as a transfer i got into ERC… which was second to last on my list. So now i have to take three extra writing classes. At first i was kinda mad but now I think it could actually help me in the long run as it will make my transition a bit easier as well as improve my writing skill

Not true. Every college requires at least a little. Muir for example requires a US minority culture class and a writing class.

Are those writing classes for Making of the Modern World? I read up a little on it and it seemed pretty interesting to me. Are they difficult?

i think for muir, the writing class is muir 50 or muir 125. i have to take it too.

i heard muir 50 isn’t that bad. muir 40 is the scary one [according to some of my muir friends]

**** UCSD…if u do IGETC you should be done with GE, that should just be the end of why do they have to be such dicks…

anyone know what is the best UCSD college for pre-med?? I got into Thurgood Marshall yesterday, but wanted to change the college…

!·#¥%! is there an transferable cc writing class that can fulfill muir’s writing req?

AFAIK, there isn’t. Fortunately or unfortunately, Muir writing is different from a lot of other writing classes. Each class is advertised with a topical focus, and there are many to choose from. It’s more investigating an interesting topic and producing a thesis than it is about the technical aspects of writing.

I’ve also heard that it’s an easy A, and it’s available during the summer. Now, the Muir US Multicultural Requirement can be completed by transfer credit.

Every college obligates at least 2 classes outside of your major. IGETC covers lower division GE classes. These 2 classes are Upper Division.

At least in the case of Muir, neither of the two additional classes need be upper division.

Not true. This is directly from UCSD.edu for Muir

IGETC
Accepted as total completion of lower-division GE requirements if certified by your last community college
Minimum of 18 4-unit upper-division courses, including upper-division major requirements and 1 upper-division writing course
1 U.S. cultural diversity course which may be completed before or after transfer

By the way, you gotta take 18 upper division classes. Definitely more than is needed for a major.

Then that page is wrong.

The writing course does not need to be upper division. Muir Writing 50 satisfies the requirement. [John Muir College :: Celebrating the Independent Spirit](http://muir.ucsd.edu/students/transferprograms.shtml) I’m reading this from both the Muir website and my degree audit.

Muir does require more upper division courses, but they can be in whatever you want.

umm not for my major it isnt…im Electrical engineering… and boy do i gots to take alot of classes!

You must have had a tag then.

TAG
1 course - Muir 50 Writing (lower-division) or Muir 125 (upper-division)
Minimum of 18 4-unit upper-division courses, which may include upper-division major requirements
1 U.S. cultural diversity course which may be completed before or after transfer

It’s a third English class to me, no thanks.

I’m not TAG. I was reading from the IGETC section on the linked page.
