UCSD College System Transfer

I got admitted into UCSD for fall 2011, however after reading the thread about the college system in that the 6th college is the farthest away and is unpopular etc. I'm starting to think about emailing UCSD to request a college change.

Im an engineer major and i just wanted to know if being a transfer and completed my lower division GE does it matter what college I'm In?

If so, from what i read Warren and Muir are the better ones for Engineering, because they are close to the engineering buildings/beaches parties even??

For the housing i'm also confused on where to live outside or in the dorms by my understanding the transfer students are placed in their own dorms.

Any feedback would be nice!

The six college system does not really apply to transfers. It is mainly for incoming freshman. The different colleges have a different set of GE requirements. Seeing as how you are a transfer and have completed your GE’s the college doesn’t matter. (I went on a tour of the school and the tour guide told me this). The whole idea of the college system is to create a small group of people you can get to know well. Once you are done with GE’s you will start taking classes with people based on major, not what college you’re in.

As for housing for transfer students… [UC San Diego Housing - The Village at Torrey Pines](http://hdh.ucsd.edu/thevillage/) <<< check out that website. The Village West and East are both for incoming transfer students. West is about a year old and East was just built (brand new)! Check out the virtual tours on the website. They give you a good idea of what they look like. On the website they also include floor plans so you can see exactly what each unit looks like.

Hope this helped :)

covered it nicely^

^ no that’s wrong.

The 6 colleges all have different Upper Division GE’s that even IGETC transfers must take. Here’s Sixth GE’s for transfers. [Transfer Students](http://sixth.ucsd.edu/advising/requirements/transfer.html)

Roosevelt makes you take a year of history/writing courses, Revelle requires a lot of math and science + multiple courses in a foreign language. Warren is 3 upper division classes in a field not related to your major. etc.

Warren is typically the most popular for engineers as it’s GE’s allow you to take classes that interest you outside your major without delaying your time to graduation (and it’s easy to pursue a minor as well).

E-mail them IMMEDIATELY if you want to have any chance to switch. UCSD’s policy on college switching is a pain (someone on their wait list has to want to switch from the college you want into Sixth) so you want to be as high up on the list as possible.

does anybody know how hard it would be to change majors once you get to ucsd? like i might change mine from english to poli sci or something. Or better yet, hard hard would it be double major??

Oh thank god I chose the right college by chance.

awk noelle’s post seemed right my first read over :X
goingmeta what college?
