UCSD Colleges ranking

Hi, I’m currently a high school senior. As I’m choosing the majors in the UC application, UCSD requires to rank the colleges. I chose the human biology as my first choice major for UCSD, any advices on ranking the colleges if I want go pre-med? Thank you so much!

Look at the GE requirements of each college and which give you AP credit for the courses you already took.

AP Credit by College

GE Requirements by College

Muir used to be the most popular but Sixth is in the brand new buildings (opened in 2020) so may be more popular this year. Seventh was a new college last year but the college took over existing housing that is far from the center of campus.

Also this links lets you compare up to 3 residential colleges side by side based on GE’s, Residential Areas and Dining.

The experts on this board is giving you great recommendations on how to do the comparison. Take a look at your AP scores and expected scores. It can help you. The colleges don’t treat all AP scores the same. My son got in as a bio major. He got into the Sixth College. He had put Muir as priority since he had the least GE but I think he would’ve been really happy with Sixth or Seventh. He loved the Sixth new dorm. Had the best food market by the dorm. I was there and it was beautiful. He chose a different college but I know he would’ve been happy with Sixth then Muir then Seventh. The colleges with writing requirements and foreign language req’s were the ones he ranked the lowest. He’s not a writing kid.

That was a useful tool to rank the colleges, but my DS22 is still not certain what NOT to rank high. As a prospective Engineer, it seems Warren would be the best?

I would love some feedback on students’ experiences, if any, so I can relay them to him. He is not artsty, not a SJW type either. But he is well rounded and enjoys many liberal arts-type topics as well.

Warren is a great match in that the GEs coincide with many of the engr requirements. I know an aeronautical engr in Seventh College and he really likes it. They get a little more freedom in their GEs. He’s in his first year and the GEs have not been an issue w/ his engr req’s.
That could work for your son.
