I'm still iffy about my rank of the six colleges on my TAG. Which individual colleges would be best for a psych major?

Which community college are you coming from?

muir is the best college.

Muir isn’t always the best. It depends on if you have IGETC done and what additional classes you’ve taken at your CC. I’m entering into Revelle, the one with the notoriously hard GE’s, but I will have to do none of them because of my work at my CC. If I entered into Muir, I would still have GE’s to complete.

If you have a TAG or IGETC, Warren only requires 3 upper-division classes unrelated to your major. I would think that’s easier especially if you’re interested in a subject but don’t wanna take too many classes in that area.

Im from Riverside Community College

And I will be IGETC certified

To anyone: If you are interested in Muir and you don’t put it as #1, there’s a very slim chance you will get it because that is by far the most popular choice among students.

I’ve taken a tour of the campus and been there a few other times to visit friends (I go to CC in SD). I would definitely pick Muir. From everyone I’ve talked to it’s really chill and the people there are closer than at the other colleges. That’s just what I’ve heard though. I’m picking Muir myself, good luck to you

i am a new transfer at ucsd this fall and got into muir. In the orientation they talked about how Muir was the most requested first choice. As for GEs…you only need to take their writing class (if you went to high school in ca). There is a diversity course they required but is waived if you went to a CA high school. With the writing class, you have a choice between mcwp 50 or 125…125 in upper division and is mostly transfers. 50 is lower division and underclassmen. 125 also satisfies your total # of upper division classes you need to graduate…so its basically an upper division elective. Another plus is Muir’s central location on campus…its legit.

With IGETC complete…

If you haven’t taken calculus and don’t want to take calculus, put Revelle as your last choice. If you’ve taken a bunch of calc, science, and a third semester foreign language class this can be your first/second choice because they’ll require no more GE’s out of you when you get there.

If you don’t wanna take a bunch of history classes, but would prefer history over calculus, rank Roosevelt above Revelle.

Marshall and Warren require that you take three, four unit upper division classes not related to your major for GE’s.

Marshall and Muir require an upper division GE writing course.

Sixth requires you take a culture, art, and tecnology (CAT) GE course.

Ohhh, so if you’ve completed the IGETC, that pretty much already satisfies [some of] the GE requirements of certain sub-colleges, right?

I ask this because I’m looking to transfer as an Engineering major, so I will have completed the entire calculus and physics series by the time of my transfer. I’m looking to hopefully get into Muir for its less demanding GE requirements. Is this a wise choice?

@HotChocolate Yes, IGETC helps alot. If you have it done (or even not), for you I’d do…
1 - Muir (because you seem to like it)
2 - Warren (you’ll have all the lower div GE’s done)
3 - Revelle (will only need to take a foreign language class, and Latin or Greek counts (sweet))
4 - Sixth (the CAT classes are somewhat neat)
5 - Marshall (better than Roosevelt)
6 - Roosevelt (avoid the history classes my engineering friend)

Oh whaaat?! This entire time I’ve had friends advise against Revelle, but if what you’re saying is true, that sounds like it would fit the bill - I’ve always wanted to learn Latin or Greek. :)
