UCSD Colleges

Hello! I was just wondering what the difference between each of the colleges at UCSD are?

They each have different residents halls and apartments and they have different GEs that you can choose from or that are required. Look in here:

http://admissions.ucsd.edu/dev3/discover.pdf

The biggest difference in the colleges is the location and GE requirements.
For example, even though Revelle, Muir, Marshall, and Eleanor Roosevelt (ERC) are all on the western half of campus, Muir is considered the closest to the beach because the path taken to Black’s Beach is across the street from Muir.
Revelle is closest to the La Jolla Playhouse, which is where most of the campuses theater productions take place. However, Revelle is known to have the most demanding GE sequences.
Muir has the “most flexible” (a.k.a. easiest) GE sequence. (I am a student of Muir)
Marshall also has pretty flexible GE’s. Both Marshall and Muir are what I would consider to be the most central on campus. From both colleges, it is much easier to reach all other parts of campus.
ERC is home to transfer housing a.k.a. The Village and international student housing a.k.a. International House or I-House. ERC’s GE’s are moderate, however their writing program requires 6 quarters (2 years) of writing.
Warren is most known for its engineering school and weirdly off-set dorms. Warren also has bunnies. Yes, live bunnies. I’m not familiar with its GE sequence.
And finally, there is Sixth college. Sixth’s GE’s are moderate. But what I think is most notable, is that the dorms in Sixth are old army barracks. Sixth is probably one of the furthest colleges from Price Center (the center of campus), but has really bomb pizza.

If you have any more specific questions, ask me.

Here’s how I see it. You don’t have to agree with me.

Revelle: The GEs are hard, their food sucks
ERC: Their GEs are hard, the food is alright
Sixth: Their GEs are “eh”, their food is far away
Warren: Their GEs are fairly easy, their food is alright
Marshall: Their GEs are fairly easy, their food is really good
Muir: Their GEs are fairly easy, their dining hall is closed right now so we’ll see how it is next year.

@$kingselite$ - great .pdf. thanks! so if muir’s dining hall is closed, where are the students eating at?

^Your welcome, and like I said before about what I said about the college is that they are my opinions. Somebody can look at ERC and say “wow, I really like these GEs” well then perfect, pick ERC. I don’t think somebody can tell you what college is best for you, that being said though, Revelle’s dining hall still sucks, ha ha,

HISBeloved… you dont have to worry about the Muir Dining hall being closed. Its going to reopen in time for fall quarter next year. But just to answer your question… we eat either at Plaza (revelle) or OVT (Marshall) both of which are 5 minute walks away

^You just admitted to sometimes eating at Plaza over OVT… shame on you. :)

I know… but its because I have Chem at York at 1 so I go to Plaza to eat right before class.

^Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ok fine, fair enough.

Can you eat at a different college or must you eat at your own? (I got into Revelle).

Yeah, you can eat wherever you want. :)

There are also some good places to eat in Price Center/url.

Thanks eltagra, that sounds good. I’ve been to the Price Center, they have panda express. Yummy! I could eat that every day…

Same question as figureskting, can we eat at a different college. Is it not okay to eat at Plaza over OVT?

Alright, read through some of these posts and this post is just really freakin ridiculous.

“Sixth is probably one of the furthest colleges from Price Center (the center of campus), but has really bomb pizza.”

Really now? Furthest college from Price Center? I’m sorry, but Sixth College is THE closest to Price Center.

This is the reason why Sixth College gets such a bad rep. People who know nothing about it spew bull **** about it and claim it sucks and is far from everything and yada yada ya. But let me give you the REAL facts.

Using this website:
CampusMap
You can put in two places on campus and get the distance. I just did that. Here are the real facts.

Sixth college res halls to Price Center distance: 0.39 miles
Earl’s Place (near Warren res halls, slightly closer may I add) to Price Center distance: 0.50 miles
Asia Hall (res hall in ERC, chosen randomly from the res halls at ERC) to Price Center: 0.75 miles
Oceanview Terrace (near Marshall res halls) to Price Center: 0.54 miles
Tioga Hall (one of Muir’s res halls) to Price Center: 0.47 miles
Argo Hall (one of Revelle’s res halls) to Price Center: 0.57 miles

Yeah, that’s right. Sixth College res halls are the CLOSEST, NOT the farthest from Price Center, which is the CENTER of campus. Before spewing bull ****, actually take the time to tell REAL facts to incoming freshmen.

@happyhappy, can you tell us if we will be allowed to eat at any of the colleges, or do we have to eat in our own dining halls?

Here is some REAL info about Sixth College, FROM a Sixth College student, and not someone else who has false knowledge about it.

GE’s are relatively easy. Not as easy as Muir or Warren, but not as hard as ERC or Revelle. I’d put it as 4th, slightly behind Marshall.

Not-so-attractive res halls on the outside, but very similar on the inside to every other college. Almost all the res halls are very similar, only the building appearance is different, really. You’ll learn to love the res halls, trust me.

Fairly far away dining hall, Foodworx. No place to eat inside. Only a problem when it rains, but really… we’re in SD, it barely ever rains here and if it does rain, just bring your food back to your res hall. The food is pretty good. Has amazing personal pizzas, quesedillas, breadsticks, sandwiches, wraps, and salads. Small variety, but I assure you the food is comparable to every other dining hall, despite how it looks on the outside.

Easiest access to all the buses that come on campus, which means easy bus rides to the beach, mall, Ralph’s, or wherever else you need to go.

Lots of college pride. It has the least amount of students, but probably has the most pride out of all the colleges. Does this matter? To me, I don’t give a ****. I could care less about my college’s pride, but if you are looking to get involved with campus wide activities and such, Sixth College definitely has a lot of pride.

Like I established above, close to Price Center, the CLOSEST to Price Center, aka the center of campus.

Might be far away from certain classes, but really it’s no big deal. Sixth is far from York, Peterson, Solis, etc. but is very close to PC theater, Center, Warren Lecture Hall, etc. Every other college has far classes too.

You can eat at any other college’s dining halls. You are not restricted to eating at only your own dining hall. Also, they accept dining dollars at other little stores and food places, like Goody’s, which sells burritos, and the Village, which is north of ERC.

You can eat at any dining hall you want to eat at - you’re not limited to the one located in your college. $KingsElite$ was just joking about how [Plaza’s food](http://hds.ucsd.edu/diningservices/menu/MenuDisplay.aspx?FacilityID=09) is worse than OVT’s.

“happy happy”. i actually wish i got into sixth. their chocolate party sounded pretty legit.
