UCSD CompSci

I am interested in this major. I am currently competitive for the school, not for CS though. For CS, how (much more) qualified are the people who are accepted?

Thanks

UCSD admits into the University first and then into the major. Since CS is a capped major, you can get accepted into UCSD but may not get into the CS major. You would then have to try to change majors and for Fall 2017, it will be a lottery once prospective students complete the requirements.

Have you checked the UCSD’s decision thread for this year to see posted stats for accepted/rejected and waitlisted applicants.?

Since CS is competitive at so many schools, I would say you need to be at the UCSD’s 75th percentile in UC GPA and test scores for a solid chance.

I couldn’t find a strictly results page. I looked at discussion page but its over 100 pages and I don’t think its an appropriate use of time to comb through all 100 of them. @Gumbymom

You can use the magnifying glass on the top right hand side of the thread to do a search. Type in a key word and it bring up all posts with that key word. The CC community is only a small representation of the admitted students but gives you an idea of what kind of students are getting acceptances.

UCSD CSE should be considered a reach for everyone, since the major is so popular relative to its capacity (however, those not admitted to UCSD CSE may be admitted to UCSD undeclared or in another major).

Changing into the CSE major after enrolling at UCSD not in the CSE major is unlikely. Current process is that you need a 3.3 GPA in prerequisites and then enter a lottery. However, in previous quarters, it was done by ranking applicants’ GPAs, and the thresholds were 4.0 or 3.9 in recent previous quarters.
