UCSD Engineering requirements question.

Is it recommended that I finish the full calculus-based Physics or is it required? I''m applying as a Fall 2010 transfer, and my last semester will consist of linear algebra, differential equations, and the remaining 2 Physics courses. My problem is that, I'll have to quit my job in order to complete my physics. If not, I wont be able to finish the last one.

So has anyone transferred as an EE major, with a remaining Physics course? Any Idea?

Thanks

I’m going to be transferring to UCSD without most of the pre-reqs. We will get accepted because of TAG as long as our major isn’t impacted (which EE is not).

What he said ^. For whatever reason UCSD seems to be the most relaxed about pre-reqs for engineers (as long as you pick a non impacted major).

Do we have to finish all the courses listed on assist.org for ucsd engineering? If not, do we just take the remaining classes at ucsd if we get accepted?

^ Not if you major is not impacted. Yes you would finish them up at UCSD if accepted/

but it says here:

admission Requirements for a CSE major
Starting Fall 2006, transfer students must complete the following nine courses with an overall GPA of 3.4 and must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA:
Math 20A - Calculus I - for Science
Math 20B - Calculus II - for Science
Math 20C - Calculus and Analytic Geometry
Math 20D - Differential Equations
Math 20F - Linear Algebra
Physics 2A - Mechanics
Physics 2B - Electricity and Magnetism
Physics 2B - Fuilds, Waves Thermodynamics and Optics
Highest level of Introductory Computer Programming Language Course offerings at the community college

I’m just telling you what I was told. What major are you applying for? Will you be TAG eligible?

Well, I’m still debating whether I should still do engineering. I’m trying to avoid physics. I hear there’s a computer science major that doesn’t require physics. I’m looking into that now. Yes, I will be TAG eligible.

hey for UCSD tag dont u need to do IGETC, while engineering donest require that?

Yes, you need to finish IGETC before transferring to be eligible for TAG.

However, I won’t be signing the TAG. That is why I’m worried if they do not accept me, just because I was unable to finish 1 Physics course.

UCSD’s CSE majors are open. Unlike all the other engineering majors, you don’t need to have those classes done to get in. You can finish or start physics when you get there.

UCSD has a Mathematics/Computer Science major that has no phyics but plenty CS.

UC Berkeley has a Computer Science BA (not the BS in EECS) which requires no physics and is in the college of letters and science.

If I don’t complete the pre-reqs (physics), I’m at a disadvantage correct? Admission officers look at the depth of your preparation for engineering?

I’m so happy about the fact CSE is open (I’m a comp engineering major), at least I don’t have to be SUPER stressed around March (IGETC done so I’m TAG). The only thing I’m annoyed about is all the programming at my school is C++ so only my math + physics will transfer over and I will have to do programming again.

the only things they look at are the amount of prereqs you’ve completed and the grades you received in them, so yes I would say you’re going to be at a disadvantage. That said there are a lot of transfers here that are catching up on their physics and math in my engineering classes.
