I have just been accepted into UCSD's Mechanical Engineering program. What are some of the weed out classes I should expect? Are there a lot?

Basically all STEM major lower division classes should be treated as weed out classes. Some professors may be a lot easier, but always expect to get one. Treat them ALL like weed out classes. You’re at a UC, so this shouldn’t really be a surprise. :O

What are weed-out classes suppose to be anyways? Classes that are more difficult than they should be or just classes with low averages?
Because I certainly do feel like STEM lower div classes are weeder classes, but isn’t that kind of implying that the upper div classes would be easier? Is that the case O_o ?

@Distress: Weeder classes basically serve the function of taking out students who cannot handle the rigor or students who aren’t motivated enough to succeed in that field. Upper Division classes are more tough because you’re supposed to learn the material.

Both are hard in their own right and different people thrive on different courses. I know people who love upper division classes and hated lower division classes with a passion.
