I am surprised there is still no thread for UCSD, given that UCLA’s and UCI’s threads have been open for months…
Please post your questions, comments, stats for UC San Diego here.
I will start:
Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.79
Pre-reqs: taking MATH 20D and CSE 30 in spring 2017.
ECs: full-time (40 hrs) job in a software development field.
TAG: UCI
Good on you for starting the thread. Any idea if there is a Class of 2021 Freshman thread? I’d love to discuss chances for UCSD with other Freshmen hopefuls!
Honestly, I am here to both rant and get hope for myself.
I am currently a community college student and this fall 2016 semester completely ruined my life. I applied to UCLA with a 3.7 gpa, my major being anthropology B.A.
I had high hopes that I had a really good chance
I will be TAP certified as well, completed IGETC and all my major courses will be done.
I was taking 18 units this fall and unfortunately it dropped my gpa to a 3.255.
I got 3 C’s, my first time getting C’s.
My anxiety has gone through the roof, I did not choose an alternative major even though I wish I chose undeclared since I heard they have a very high chance of getting in.
Please give me some feed back and thoughts on what you think my life looks like lol.
I will be taking winter course, 8 Units to boost my gpa to a 3.3 and then take 14 units spring so it should get to around a 3.4-3.5.
Can someone please chance me for first year transfer from UCR Bioengineering?
Major: Bioengineering
UC GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: N/A
Major Prep: All except Linear Algebra by Spring 2017 (referring to: http://be.ucsd.edu/transfer-bioengineering)
TAP: N/A
EC’s:
Don’t have much except joining BMES and SD Hacks, so I’ll list my high school ones.
-USC Mechanical Engineering Internship over summer
-Volunteer tutor at library
-President of FBLA, also won 8th Place Computer Applications at State Level competition and 5th Place Computer Applications at Section Level competition
-Vice-Captain of Vex Robotics Team
I’m about to update my UC TAP tomorrow, my gpa is around 3.0 sadly. I’ve completed my IGETC & this spring I’ll just finish up some classes I need for my associates, I know my gpa will rise.
Is there still a chance for me to get accepted as a transfer student for the fall? My major is Biology.
If it rises to the 3.2-3.3 range I say there is likely a chance but not that great one. Still I’ve heard people getting into ucsd for biology with that gpa range.
Hey guys! Yeah, I was expecting more UCSD threads too.

Probably won’t get in but never hurts to try
Hey guys, I’m new here and I am also transferring for next Fall. It would be lovely if I could be chanced.
Out of state, international student, Junior transfer from a community college (WA state).
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.96
ECs: Probably the worse aspect of my application; all were done in high school (school band, varsity basketball team, etc.), beside hosting events with PTK.
Personal statements: Honestly, I don’t know… They are decent, I guess…
So is there an exact GPA they cutoff at and everything else under they wait list? I heard the closer to 3.5 (and of course over) the better. I’m at a 3.47 after the TAU and I’m feeling nervous. This is be a long 2-3 months…
Meh, same. I already signed up for the portal Tuesday. They are painfully slow getting emails out. I wonder how many transfers applied this year versus last.
@MulanVVV My friend got in with less than a 3.0. Biology is impacted this year though so you’ll probably be admitted undeclared and then have to apply to the major if they don’t let you in right away.
Major: Electrical Engineering
GPA: 3.42
Major GPA: 3.15
IGETC: Everything except foreign language
Prereqs: Everything except Circuits
TAG: No
ECs: REU at UC Riverside in Materials Science and Engineering
Treasurer of Math Club at both Fullerton and Cypress College
Participated in Psychology Club and Astronomy Club
Volunteered at elementary school for 2 years
I work 20-40 hours every week
I am pre-med, and UCSD has always been my dream school. I left CSULA after a year, and transferred to community college so I could give admission another try. Good luck to all.
Major: Sociology with an interest in science and medicine
GPA: 3.4, before TAU
EC’s: - UCLA health scholar program, 200+ hours on clinical floors such as E.R., oncology, cardio, etc.
- Cashier at Albertson’s, just quit recently to focus on school.
I was wondering how much weight fall grades usually carry in admission decisions? My work hours really affected my academic performance this semester, two C’s (chem and calc), and an A. I am hoping because my major is not impacted I still have a shot, but I’m really worried. So if anyone has any insight or success stories to share, I would be truly grateful.
