some non-impacted majors received acceptances, not all. Everyone else will hear back next friday
I went to the all access tour today for early admitted students. The woman who worked for the admissions office told us that some of the top applicants were admitted early, I quote “cream of the crop.” Not ALL top applicants, just a small percentage! Major doesn’t really play a role I believe, I met people with all types of majors across the board today. UCSD is a beautiful school and today really made me grateful for the oppurtunity. I really wish the best of luck to everyone who’s waiting to hear back, you all deserve to go to your dream school.
@futurelawyer88. What about engineer majors you met anybody today that already got accepted?
@futurelawyer88 what was your favorite part about the school?
@fcb1010 Yeah I met 2 engineering majors today!
@phil067 I feel like UCSD is so inclusive. The school really makes an effort to help you feel welcomed, especially for transfer students who come in a bit unstable due to either age, out of state, lack of community, etc etc. They provide so many resources for us to feel at home and build our own little happy place at the school. The Village (the residential housing where transfer students usually live at) is particularly nice because it makes me feel better that there are others who are in the same boat in such close vicinity as me, so I’d have a good support system. I’m a small town girl who’s never really been away from home, so it makes me feel reassured to know UCSD provides a solid community to adapt to. I hope you get a chance to go to Triton Transfer day to experience the culture yourself!
@futurelawyer88 I’m glad you enjoyed your time there and felt comfortable. did you get a chance to see what the apartments look like in the village? Have you visited any other schools yet?
I’ve visited sb,davis,sc, irvine, and some of la and berkeley but not an official tour - sd tomorrow
@phil067 Unfortunately not the inside! Students were not available to showcase, so I’ll be back for Transfer Triton day for a more thorough look. I’ve visited UCI, UCLA, UCSB and UCR too! I haven’t visited Berkeley yet because I’m a 7hr drive from there and I don’t want to go unless I’ve been accepted but we haven’t heard back yet. Have fun on your SD tour!!
I know UCB is the best UC academically but honestly the campus leaves a lot to desire. Also I didn’t really like the surroundings.
@fcb1010 my initial thoughts were the same as yours. But i haven’t seen the whole campus nor most of the city - we sort of just drove by it
@phil067. I was there last week and honestly didn’t like it. I visited UCLA last year and I really liked it. UCLA is definitely my top choice. I even liked the UCSD campus more than Berkleys.
Actually I’m pretty sure that I’ve read somewhere that starting Fall 2017 transfer students cannot be admitted to UCSD as Undeclared anymore. If you are not accepted after they review your main and alt major for the second screening you are not getting in. Sorry for that information but I think it is accurate. Good luck to everyone.
“It is strongly recommended that you select an alternate major on the UC Application, and that your alternate major not be capped. If you are not admitted to a capped major, you may be admitted to your alternate uncapped major. If you are not admitted into a capped major or you have not selected an alternate major, you will not be admitted to the university.” It’s on their website. So it is a fact. https://admissions.ucsd.edu/transfers/requirements.html
@frkfr93 Do they mean if you are not admitted into a capped major AND you have not selected an alternate major, you will not be admitted?
So I applied as Aerospace Engineering as my main and Physics (uncapped) as my major. If I dont get in for Aerospace then I can still get in for physics no problem?
@futurelawyer88 Hearing about your UCSD experience makes me so happy! I only saw pictures online but I really think it’s such a beautiful campus. So aesthetically pleasing, haha. I know that’s only a small part of the whole college experience, so I’m really excited to visit the campus during Transfer Triton Day! How affordable was the housing in the Village by any chance? That’s one thing I’m also really interested in, the cost of off-campus housing.
@littlebuns Oh nice to meet another linguistics major here!
My ucla major is Linguistics&Psychology and SD as Linguistics.
Overall transferable Gpa is 3.58!
My Major GPA is 3.82 (psychology B…)
Well I now serve as a student assistant at Adult ESL Center.
I got into UCSB, UCR, UIUC (which isn’t UC).
The good part is I both got invited to the honors program for UCSB and UCR. I think that means I appear as a successful student to those schools at least (?)…
What is your stat? How could you get your result so early :’( I envy you. I feel so nervous right now!
I went into UCSD transfer applicant login cite in order to check and it says my result will come out on the 30th of April!
@lostar We didn’t get much info on housing because we only had 15 minutes with the housing rep ): They told us to come back on Triton Transfer day for an actual tour and proper workshop to answer all our housing questions!!
@itskelvinn Not sure about the first question, but yeah if you don’t get into Aerospace then you will be reviewed for physics and can get in.
Side note: The physics department just became capped. I’m assuming this will apply starting Fall 2017 though, so it shouldn’t affect transfers who applied this year.
@TransfertoUCLA when did UCSB send you an invitation to join the honors program…?
Does anyone know about how summer registration works? Hopefully if I get in, I have to take various major specific classes that are prereqs to multiple upper divs.
@lexluther96 Oh my bad! honors for UCR but for UCSB, they sent an invitation for free hotel events for Humanities &fine arts department! Did you also get the invitation? are you linguistics major?
