UCSD Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

@bigvoot right?! At least I have a spanish exam on Thursday that I need to be studying for which is keeping me somewhat distracted.

@blackonyx good luck man we all in this together (ง ͠° ͟ل͜ ͡°)ง

@Transfer510 yes I am from another uc transfering to ucsd! But I am a first year :-SS

Hey everyone! I’ve been lurking for awhile and thought it’d be helpful to post my stats because I was accepted in the first wave (got an email to check my portal on 03/11).

Junior Transfer from California Community College

Major: International Studies - Sociology
College: Thurgood Marshall (which was my first choice)
GPA: 4.00
EC: Part time jobs, Summer + weekly volunteering, Honors Program (nothing amazing, to be honest I did a lot more in high school)
Essays: I would say pretty good (but also I may be totally wrong, because it’s all subjective)

Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCD, UCSC
Accepted: UCSD, UCSB
Pending all others

Good luck to everyone, and feel free to message me any questions!

I was accepted to ucsd!
Gap: 3.93
Major: history
House : sixth, I wanted Muir though.
I was in honors program and an honors mentor
I volunteered for animal shelters
I am transferring from a community college

Today? @lexiii266

@lexiii266 congrats!! I have been slotted into 6th college also.

I am - trying to transfer from UCR

@lexiii266 yeah were you accepted in March or recently?

@collegepls1235 are you a sophomore rn?

@lexiii266 i heard sixth is hilarious (check the UCSD meme page… they have lots of raccoons in sixth apparently and it’s this running joke… needless to say i think they have a hilarious sense of humor! don’t be too sad about not making muir!) and congratulations!

The waiting is driving me nuts. I did speak to financial aid for UCSD about my application… because I messed up. :)) I don’t know what’s going to actually happen when decisions finally drop, haha.

Does anyone know when decisions will be posted?

@Ometeotl Should be Friday afternoon around 4 PM based on last year.

Any of you folks worried/concerned about SD’s reputation of being UC socially dead?

@Orangered123 I’m very meh about that aspect of UCSD. I’m not big on partying at all, so it’s not even a big factor to me. I’m okay with going out, as in “have a cup of coffee, hog a huge table at a cafe, and study together as we stress joke about exams and class work” kind of socializing.

@thinkweism That’s fair. I prefer the same type of socializing, but I like the idea of having my options open. In the strange case I wanted to party like crazy, it’d be nice to have some subset of campus be party crazy and be able to go there for a night.

UCSD is socially dead if you’re not affiliated with greek life but SD as a whole is pretty fun. You have PB if you’re into partying which you can take a bus too for free with your student ID.

that what UCSB for

@Orangered123 it is definitely nice to have that option if people really want that type of scene. I don’t blame people for that, as it’s college and most individuals are on the “younger” end of the spectrum (early to mid 20s). SD is definitely an active and lively city, so there isn’t a shortage of things to do. My boyfriend lives in SD and even though he’s more of a recluse like me, he tells me there is literally always something to do/parties going on.

San diego is a densely populated southern california city. If you cant find anything to do, its not because UCSD is “socially dead”.
