@skyinthesky couldn’t you technically still hear back in March if you applied for a capped major but they accept you for your second uncapped major? I honestly don’t care what major I get accepted for at this point… Cause hearing back now would be a helluva relief for anyone [-(
@Princetonian9 I am not sure. From what I can tell from previous threads it seems like those who get in early tend to be for their first choice. From my notes only one person on the 2017 transfer thread got accepted to their alt major. There is a chance but I don’t know how high it is
How does financial aid work in terms of when you find out how much they offer? If we get accepted on Friday will they tell you how much your award is then?
If I recall correctly, most of us could see our “preliminary” financial aid status when we got accepted (I was in the last batch of April). I think it was around July/August time that they posted the actual financial aid awards, grants, loans, fed work aid, etc.
That’s weird. So you have to commit before you know how much it’s actually going to cost.
From most of our experiences the numbers stayed relatively the same. I was fortunate that they wound up giving me more grant money than they originally projected so I don’t really pay anything (just my rent & own living costs). I think a few got 2K less than originally estimated, their loan amount increased, as did their max for work aid.
(I got more because I’m obviously hella poor and am an independent student)
That’s cool. Yeah awards are not the only factor, but financial aid will play a role in which UC I end up going with. It seemed weird that they would hold back that info until after you committed.
I too am an independent student and need to budget for a possible move.
I almost picked UCI because it had such a good aid package and I could get my master’s as I earned my bachelor’s but I couldn’t give up the financial aid SD gave me. Couple that with having industry connections through your professor is amazing.
If you ever need some guidance with budgeting and the move, hit up the transfer group on FB! I can give some insight to living expenses (I live off campus) and whatnot. I had to budget a lot to make the move but it’s not as expensive for me, considering I work part-time.
Ok so it is possible we can hear tomorrow. Who else is freaking out. I will literally be so sad if admissions don’t go out tomorrow. Even if I do not get in tomorrow I am just sick of waiting
@skyinthesky It has to be tomorrow! It won’t make any sense if they don’t. GOOD LUCK to everyone!
@AdultSwimFan I am hopeful, but I am not sure. Usually UCSD lets some freshman know with their calling campaign, which does not start until next week. At least we will hear from UCSB next Tuesday.
@skyinthesky I’m so anxious, because SD is the only one I’m in the GPA range for. I’ll start crying if I get in, and also if I don’t. lol
@hailey5799 same on the crying either way. UCSD is my #2 so I would feel so relieved if I got in
Yeah it’s my third choice, Berkeley being first and UCLA second, but idk if I’ll get into either. I’m really betting on UCSD rn. I will be so happy and relieved if I get in. @skyinthesky
Does anyone know when UCSD decisions should start coming out tomorrow?
@hailey5799 if they do it will likely be at 3pm maybe 5pm
@skyinthesky I can’t wait this long! Its killing me,
@hailey5799 Today is the day!!! 4 HOURS LEFT! I hope it’s today though, lol
@AdultSwimFan @hailey5799 people on the freshman thread said their portals were changing. Mine still looks the same but does yours look any different???
has anyone’s portal changed at all?
Nope.
