Also, does anyone know if UCs consider Winter Intersession grades in your decision? I screwed up and got a B in an easy Psych 101 class.
@KSHarris I was wondering the same thing also. I am taking a stats class, and I want them to see my grade. I believe they don’t count the classes you take after fall semester/quarter for GPA calculation. But they might use them for admission decisions.
Also, do you know how many programming courses we have to take for cog sci? I already took 2 java classes, but I am not sure if I need to take MATLAB also.
@GaussX I talked to one of my transfer counselors as well as a UCSD admissions officer, and the consensus I got was that they are making decisions purely on what you have up through Fall 2018. Everything after just needs to meet the conditions of your acceptance (if you are accepted that is). This usually means that anything after Fall just needs to be passing and doesn’t drag your cumulative below what’s required by the University (3.0 I think?).
However, I think doing your absolute best is imperative just to be on the safe side of protecting yourself from being rescinded. I was starting to fall into the trap of kicking back and doing mediocre this semester, but a friend in Grad school convinced me to keep the pressure on, especially if I want to be competitive for Grad school should I pursue that.
For lower-div, you only need one programming course. For me, either Intro to CS: Java I (CSE 8A equivalent) or Data Structures (CSE 12 equivalent) work. I have an AA in CS, so I’m set for all this. Depending on your specialization, you may want to have the equivalent to CSE 8B (Intro to CS: Java II) as it may be a pre-req for an upper-div. Personally, I feel like there should be way more programming than what they require, which is why I plan to minor in CS. From what it sounds like, you have 2 Java classes and if they articulate to to at least 8A, then you are definitely set. No need for MATLAB.
Also, keep in mind that Cog Sci has changed in only the last couple years, so check their articulation update to see where you stand here: https://admissions.ucsd.edu/transfer/course-transferability-guide.html
Note that Assist may not be up to date for Cogs. Caught me off guard in the Fall as they added a new articulation for COGS 17, which is why I had to scramble to get my Intro to Psych in the Winter.
From your GPA alone and having met most, if not all of your articulations, you definitely look like a strong pick and I think you’ll be accepted. The good news for me having a lower GPA and missing Linear is that the transfer acceptance for COGS was 80% in 2017!
@notyet66 Maybe on the merits of the winter classes themselves, but it won’t factor into your transfer GPA. I couldn’t include Winter grades on my update due to the timing, so they aren’t going to see them until I send transcripts.
Hope this thread is still alive now that it’s March and April can’t get here sooner so I feel like I’m being eaten alive by anxiety lol. If anyone knows of a Fall 2019 intercampus transfer forum, please let me know! or if you would like information about undergraduate studies at UCR, feel free to contact me!

Hey guys, I was just wondering if I have any shot. I am from Michigan and am attending Michigan State. I have a 3.84 GPA through 46 credits as an econ major. Just how difficult is it to get admitted from out of state? thanks
Got Contacted by UCSD for some Follow up info… so they are processing transfer applications as we speak. Figured I’d pass along that info to fellow transfers.
