So I’ve been poking around different threads from about a year ago and heard of people who applied previously, were denied, then replied and accepted a year later. I wonder if that means I have a chance at getting in since last year I was waitlisted and reapplied again this year…
@Lexi02 I have read similar things. So that could be good news for you
@tinedancer this year looks to be sooner than the past few. From looking at the past few years, I believe only 2018 was an outlier. So we could be hearing as soon as April 12th, and probably no later than April 17th.
April 17th or 18th sounds like a likely date. UC Berkeley is apparently confirmed to release on the 19th so UCSD really couldn’t justify sending out decisions later than that…
The only reason i think it might be the 12/14th is that every other year it was 5-7 days before UCB. Only last year was the day before from what I am reading.
The closer it gets, the more anxious I get! Here are my stats:
CCC: De Anza College/ Foothill College

@willowstil Hello fellow FHDA student I think you have a great shot
@90smix Hey thanks! You for sure do too
How many of you that applied to a Capped Major put your second choice as a non-capped major? Or did you choose to risk it and put down an easier capped major to get into that was similar to your primary choice?
@Scoobybrew I didn’t include an alternative, non-capped major on my application. Definitely not worth it going in for a major I’m not into.
@kristinpete so your primary was a capped STEM major but you left the alternative major completely blank? I completely agree with the All in or not All mentality. Whats the point of spending all that money on a degree you aren’t interested in.
I thought UCSD encourages you to add a non-capped if your first choice is capped.
@Scoobybrew Exactly! I’m not a liberal arts person at all.
@Ohm888 Yes, they do. They even sent that email way back reminding me that I should indicate an alternative but I ignored it.
@Ohm888 they do encourage you, but it’s up to your personal preference in my opinion. I added an almost equally difficult but very similar major as an alternate. I was told not to I still did and it’s almost impossible to transfer into a capped major from an I.E. non-STEM major. From friends currently attending that are in capped STEM majors, they had only heard of the occasional capped stem to another capped stem transfer when/if there was room. However never a non stem/capped major transferring into a stem/capped major. In their statement if I remember, they state the reasoning so “at least you are accepted” but to me whats the point. If you want to be a chemist but end up being forced to study literature (for example) then whats the point. If that’s the case, find the cheapest school possible and then study something you don’t want to. That’s just my thoughts though, I could be wrong.
@kristinpete totally understand. When I graduated high school I went to a 4 year college to study Economics, I liked it but realized I didn’t want a job in it just going over spreadsheets. Dropped out, started designing my own stuff, then got hired as an engineer for the company that wanted my designs. Worked there for a few years, then decided this is what I wanted to do, went back to do all the pre-reqs that were required. Now transferring when I saw the recommendation I chose an alternate degree, I looked through and saw every stem major capped, and literally said to myself “what is the point”. If you don’t do what you are interested in then at a minimum you might get stuck in a job you hate. once again just my personal experience, but fully agree with your mentality.
I can get where it’s a possible pass if there isn’t really another major you want.
@Ohm888 by all means, if you also have a desire for a non-capped major, then I would say that’s a smart back up. I just knew I didn’t want to study anything but the major I applied for, but there was a major still capped but ever so slightly easier to get into that is very close to mine. so I put it down as an alternate but I’d honestly be surprised if I was accepted to my alternate and not my primary because they were so close acceptance and competition wise .
Why does ucsd have so little posts?
Because we know we’re not gonna hear anything from them for another couple weeks
