In the triples in ERC where the beds are bunked, even the shorter girls in my suite couldn’t fully sit up in their top bunk. It looked very claustrophobic to me and I would actually prefer the bottom bunk.

Wait, what’s ERC anyways?

^Lollllllz. Eleanor Roosevelt College.

oh doy. xP

One more thing, does anyone know when will Revelle tell us about our dorm rooms and roommies?

sometime within the next 3-4 weeks

glee~ I can’t wait to see who my roomie is! oh, and in your pictures I saw that there are little bathroom cabinets for each roomie to keep their caddies and stuff, do you have the general length, width and depth of the cubie?

hey MySimpComplex,

they tell you your roommates & other housing info on September 1.

Oh, 9/1? Okay thanks!

Gah! I was just told that Revelle dorms’ got no heating systems!?

NO wayyyyyyyy that’s impossible. my friend’s dorm in revelle was like overheated for most of winter

@MySimpComplex

I hope you’re not implying that it ever gets cold in San Diego. :)

Here are some images I took back in the spring when I toured the campus.

[MobileMe Gallery](http://gallery.me.com/gringogrande#100165&view=grid&bgcolor=black&sel=59)

-enjoy!

To those of you who don’t know:

Check out Gringo’s gallery–the last few pictures show Glider Port,a hanging cliff above Black’s Beach where people go to hang glide/watch the sunset. This is practically ~5 minutes away from UCSD (Marshall/ERC) and the view is unrivaled.

Yay, more pictures!

So there IS a heating system? I’m relieved, because I’m like a cat on rainy and cold days. I’d die without serious heat indoors.

yes, there’s heat. sometimes it works a little too well (we’d end up frying our neighbors above, and they’d have to come down and yell at us).

I was going through my iPhoto, and found these I took on Transfer Admit Day 4/8/10

Today I was on campus to answer some questions about classes and financial aid, and took these I as dawdled about campus.

Great pics, by the way. My son who is a junior in high school, is planning on majoring in molecular biology and eventually heading on to graduate school like you for possible PhD in genetics, virology, something like that. So, he is very interested in either going to Berkeley or UCSD. Do you have any opinions on which school would be better for that major? He has heard wonderful things about undergraduates getting to do research at San Diego. We live in Los Angeles so of course he is used to the nice weather. He wants a school with excellent reputation for his major as well as opportunities for research… Let me know what you think.

Both schools are excellent choices to have for academics and research potential. Both schools are also very different in terms of student body, school spirit, food, climate, etc. Since there’s not much to compare at the academics level, I’d recommend him to go to whichever campus he feels most at home at.

It seems like simple advice, but it really holds true – my graduate program admits people from the Ivies, the UCs, and tiny little liberal arts colleges that nobody’s ever heard of. Being an attractive applicant isn’t so much based on your alma mater as it is on what you’ve managed to make of yourself during your time at said institution.

Thanks for your comments, Astrina…He does like Berkeley, is ok with the fact that La Jolla is not exactly a college town…How easy is it to enjoy the city of San Diego as a student at UCSD without a car? I agree with the fact that it is what you make up your college experience that matters with graduate schools, not the undergraduate institution you attended…My older son who is now a college freshman, has pretty much said the same thing…that it does not matter where you attend college, but more important, that when you graduate, whatever you do, you do well…Such a mature viewpoint from an 18 year old!

Although I don’t have any high-quality pictures yet…can I just say that the beaches at F**KING BEAUTIFUL?? Blue seas, exceptional sand, magnificent waves, AMAZING sunsets (on a clear day -which is almost always-). It’s like one of those romantic getaways that you see on T.V. If you’re a beach bum like me, you’ll definitely enjoy UCSD. The campus itself is nice enough, and can I just take this opportunity to say that triton eye is over-exaggerated? There are plenty of good-looking guys/girls. Of course not everyone is going to look like a god/goddess but trust me, you’ll find someone you like. All in all, great academics, beautiful surroundings, beautiful people. What else do you want? GO HERE.
P.S. There are parties. You just have to know where to go ;]

@ stpatricks14 - i’m guessing you haven’t encountered the may grays or june gloom yet …

@ Rousse54 - A car is by no means necessary at UCSD (unless your kid decides to get a job out of biking range of the campus), but it is very nice to have.
