Does anyone know anything about possible internships at Scripps Research Institute for biomedical or bioengineering?

Or has anyone on CC been an intern there?

Is it easier to get an internships by being a student at UCSD because of its proximity to the campus?

I wouldn’t say it is easier to get an internship because you are a UCSD student. It would certainly be easier for you because of the proximity, but I don’t think they take that into account when hiring. However, there are some opportunities at UCSD that you can take advantage of that would allow you to get access to Scripps. For example, there is the AIP (academic internship program) that has a list of labs you can apply to via their program and most of them are from Scripps. However, you need a junior standing to apply. Or, you can try to apply for work-study with them when they have position open. I don’t think you can be an intern that either isn’t getting course credit or getting paid at Scripps; so you can’t just ask them to take advantage of free labor from you like a volunteering. Policy is policy.

sincerely,
an intern at scripps

P.S: why the keen interest for scripps? I think UCSD has some competent labs also O-o
