UCSD Jacob's Engineering School e-mail- "Glad You Applied"

Has anyone gotten an e-mail from Jacob's yet?
Shouldn't it come out some time in February?

Did your S get one this morning?

Nope. I would like to know when to expect…

My D just got the email few minutes ago.

Anybody knows if every applicants get this email or a subset of applicants?

Got the email from UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering - not sure if it is just mass mailer.

I received the email earlier today.

If you search on the forums and look back, its looks like they have sent this email to a group of students for the past few years. No one seems to have a definitive answer on what exactly it means, who it is sent to, etc., but it seems to be a good sign. Students who received the email in the past have reported getting rejected or wait-listed, though the vast majority have received acceptances (from the small sample of applicants who posted in past threads).

“As a top applicant to the university…”

I’m hoping for the best!

Also, at the bottom of the email it says:

“Please note that receipt of this email does not constitute or guarantee admission to UC San Diego or the Jacobs School of Engineering.”

…but it does not say that it does not have any relation to an admission decision. Maybe I am reading too much into this, LOL.

My son got one too.

Will UCLA be sending such likely letters as well?

@Ijmom: I have no idea, but I don’t think this email qualifies as a “likely letter.” Likely letters imply an admissions guarantee (they are basically an early acceptance letter).

I think “Top Candidate” means something…

The letter seems like marketing fluff except for the above language, which I interpret to mean “We can’t officially offer you admission at this time, but we want you to understand that admission is very likely.” If they had wanted to convey another message, the disclaimer could have said “We are sending this message to all applicants,” or “Your receipt of this message indicates nothing about your chance of admission.”

Also, why would a school send marketing fluff to students who already had applied, unless it is marketing fluff designed to get them to enroll?

It may also mean “don’t hold us accountable if you don’t get the admission to UCSD or the intended engineering major”. Universities legal department may insist on such language.

@2018dad: just check my S portal. No such message. what is your D’s stats if you don’t mind I ask?
My S stats: SAT 2080, ACT 30, GPA w 4.03 / uw 3.75. Applied for Electrical Engineering.
some awards + some ECs

in fact, same question for all the ones that got this email from UCSD too if you don’t mind. Thanks.

@halongbay
4.0 UC UW, 4.31 UC W Capped, 2200 SAT, 34 ACT, Computer Science

4.0 UW / 4.31 W UC GPA, 2190 SAT, Bioengineering. Solid ECs, awards, and leadership, including an engineering summer program at UCSD that is listed under "“Special Program Participation” directly on the UC application.

thank you 2018dad & CollegiateDreams. Your child’s stats explained everything. We just have to wait and keep our hopes up. Congratulations!

Got the email. 2240 SAT, ~4.3 GPA. I got the Berkeley Regents Invite.

Did anyone get followup e-mails from UCSD? Will they have a reception similar to UCSB. We are trying to plan ahead and save the dates.

I got the email as well, followed by one about “Team Engineering” a few days later. Pretty odd, considering my stats. :/
