UCSD Management Science degree

I'm looking into manage. science. I'm also a CS major atm. I was thinking of maybe double majoring in manage. science and CS, if not double major def get a minor in management science. Will it be possible to do so in 4 years if I take classes over summer? How is the management science major? is it competitive?

Also, when coming out of UCSD with a double BS degree in CS and manage. science, will that give me a higher chance of getting a better job with more pay compared to just a CS degree? My main area of interest is CS but I also want a business/econ mixture to it as I eventually want to go into business and entrepreneurship.

Please let me know!

Business and entrepreneurship? Those things sounds practical.

You’ll want to get an MBA for that. Econ/Management Science won’t help you learn any practical business skills.

well i definitely want to get an MBA later on. but will a management science degree help me in the beginning of my career?

I would argue no since I can’t think of any entry-level position that requires both knowledge in both disciplines. A better investment in your time would be to ensure yourself a high major GPA, perhaps take some graduate-level courses in CS, and getting work/research experience through internships or 199s. Once you’re out of undergrad and working in your first real job, this is where you gain leverage in getting an MBA. B-schools will heavily discount undergraduate success compared to work experience (typically 4-5+ years full-time) so it’s in your best interest to land a high-profile job as soon as possible.

Once you’re looking at applying to MBA programs, you will be at a position to really weigh your options–for now, I’d just worry about doing well in your primary major since complementing it with Management Science will have a relatively small effect on your applicant profile when looking at the effort involved in double majoring; the last thing you’d want is for the economics coursework to distract you and lower your CS GPA.
