I got a small envelope telling me I'd been accepted yesterday with a pamphlet for the honors program. Does this mean I'm eligible for the program? Or does everyone just get the pamphlet? Also if I am eligible, how do I let them know I'm interested?

You are eligible for the program. To tell them you are interested, you have to register for the seminar during Fall quarter. Only people who are eligible for honors have the option to register for the seminar.

thanks for clarifying! :)

Animelover, did the online letter that said you were admitted mention the honors program? Just wondering lol.

californiaxo-Actually I got a pamphlet in the mail with my official letter of acceptance.

So I assume that means no online notification? Thanks. =]

I also received that letter and was wondering if there is anyone currently enrolled in that

What are the privileges, advantages and disadvantages?
Do you priority for classes or more research opportunities?
Because it seems like the only thing is that you have to attend another class called the honors seminar, which seems pointless unless there are some benefits attached

Congrats on getting in!

As a first year here, as far as I know, there are no benefits. You are allowed to enroll in the honors seminar; you don’t have to attend. The seminars seem to be focused on social science topics, which fits with the TMC theme, so it may not be for everyone. I did take one this year; it’s worth 1 unit.

There is no priority enrollment; enrollment is determined by the number of units.

Good luck!

This is what the seminars are all about, in a nutshell. They are pretty fun, I think. However, I also highly recommend Freshman seminars anyway. They have the same kind of idea but are open to any first years and have a wider range of topics.

One benefit I got from being in honors is that the academic counselors (especially the one one who coordinates honors things) know me. This is always helpful, I would say, since college is all about networking.

And last year, because I was in Honors, I got to help out with a special scholars luncheon for top admits, and that was pretty fun, as well as being in Scholars Society (mostly regents scholars) so being invited to their activities also provides ample networking possibilities.

:) Congrats, amigos! Hope to see you in Honors seminar next fall!
