Since I failed to pass my AP exams, I was wondering what books to buy to review for the exam before I take it. I want to at least pass it to get into 20A+.

So far, the site from UCSD recommends

Just-In-Time Algebra and Trigonometry

and two other college outline for algebra and trig. should I buy the first one to refresh myself, or buy all three? Or some others will do?

I, also failed my AP Calc exam. On the UCSD’s math placement website, it says I don’t have to take MPE if I passed the SAT II’s with a 600 or above. But on the breakdown for AP Calc scores it says a 1 must take the MPE exam. I’m confused. Do I still have to take the test?

Hello, this is a question for those who have taken the math placement test before – is it really a difficult exam? I’m taking it this Friday and I’ve never taken calculus course or the math II subject test, so i don’t really know what to expect. I generally get A’s in my math courses but I for some reason fail at standardized math tests (my sat math score was just 530!)

Also, I’m a chem major, and if i don’t get into Math 20A will it greatly affect my schedule/ other courses i take (such as Physics, etc)? Will I be too far behind if I have to take Math 10A??

Most of the questions were easy, but there were some hard questions thrown in there. Don’t worry, I didn’t study and haven’t had pre-calc for a year and I managed to get placed into 10A.

I checked and my score is up too, but I figured it would because it only took one day to score them. I think the lady told us Monday because it’s a weekend.

I thought it was pretty easy, but i guess I have to take 4C to get into math 20A.
Is this going to make me really fall behind in my classes if i have to take a quarter of precalculus??

OMG^^ me too):
WAIT a minute…
So i placed into 10a, but need to pass 4c to get into 20a. CogSci majors need 20a, so that means im taking ALL 3???
I think im going to retake the placement test…■■■

Sorry if this is off topic, but do transfer students have to take placement tests? one of the reasons i was wondering is because i need to go up to calc 2 before i graduate from UC, i am currently at college algebra and my CC would require me to take college algebra, then trig, then pre-cal, if i transfer to ucsd would i not have to take trig and go straight to pre-cal. i was wondering this because trig isnt uc transferable. thanks and sorry if this wasnt an appropriate place to post this :-)

math placement test was super easy. And I’m only in pre-calc. I got into math 10A and 20A. If you just review their test online you should be good. The questions were quite similiar.

Anybody know what series i should take I’m a bit confused. I’m majoring in general bio but want to become a pharmacist…any suggestions?

I’m going to be an econ-management science major and later on I might do an accounting minor. I didn’t do really well in AP Calculus AB senior year, I had like a B/C average on most tests. Also, I don’t have to take the placement test because I got a 710 on the SAT Math II subject test. Would I be okay in 20A? IT SHOULDN’T BE TOO BAD RIGHT? If I put enough effort into it…

Math 20A Placement
Recommend 4C, 20A ok
You should take Math 4C, where you would receive a thorough and structured review of pre-calculus. You may enroll in Math 20A, but, if you choose to do so, you should thoroughly review the pre-calculus topics below.
Math 10A Placement
10A ok
You may enroll in Math 10A with no further preparation.

does this mean im placed in math 20a?
because on marshall’s site that says my placement tests, its placing me in math 10a.

the math placement exam website says that about my score (and i confirmed through email that that is correct).

this site <a href=“Web Login Service - Stale Request”>Web Login Service - Stale Request; (marshall’s site for orientation, i guess?) says im for 10a. i think right now i havent gotten counselor recommendations yet because what they emailed us to do now is fill in our ap scores and check off placement testing.
