The dean of engineering mission statement promotes "team" engineering or multidisciplinary development. Has anyone found this to be true within the program? In other words, are graduates prepared for hands on in the working world?

Yeah, I'm sure every engineering program says stuff like that.

since UCSD's mechanical engineering program is ABET-accredited, they're required to incorporate group projects. my UCSD bioengineering department satisfies our ABET requirements with a senior design project, which lasts from spring quarter of our 3rd year to spring quarter of our 4th year. as far as i know, the mechanical engineering department also has a senior design course.. i always see ME students crowding around the laser CNC machine cutting out their parts. so yes, there are real group projects, and yes, you will come to hate some of your teammates for being incredibly lazy.
