104A. Performing the Self (4)
Using autobiography, dream, confession, fantasy, or other means to invent one’s self in a new way, or to evoke the variety of selves in our imagination, the course experiments with and explores the rich possibilities available to the contemporary artist in his or her own persona. Prerequisites: two from VIS 1, 2, 3 and 111.

104BN. Verbal Performance (4)
The course is designed to introduce the student to the part played by language in contemporary performance art. Monologues, musically derived sound poetry, vocalizations, verbally inscribed installations, and the uses of language and voice in film and video are some of the areas explored. Prerequisites: VIS 104A.
