UCSD OOS

Thanks everyone for the advice, I committed to Iowa on Monday, but my brother’s custody court was Tuesday so I didn’t find out about my dad paying for all of my college until Wednesday. It wasn’t me who took him to court…just so we are clear! UCSD was my dream school because I’m not a party-er and I fell in love with the campus, so the “Socially Dead” thing wasn’t something that bothered me very much. I’m afraid that IC will be too much for me as it’s one of the top party schools in the nation, but I would rather come out with no debt and then move to California when I’m financially stable. I just wasn’t sure if my dad’s new contributions would make any difference.

I think that’s a great plan. I wasn’t a partier and neither is my son. Going to a college known for partying isn’t something I’d worry about. You don’t have to go to every party and, even if you do, you don’t have to drink. Go to Iowa and have a great time!

You will likely find your non-party tribe at Iowa. It’s a large school, and therefore will have a variety of kids. I suggest that you immediately seek out clubs that would more likely attract students who are more academic minded. It’s flagship so it’s attracting the better/best students of that state.

I don’t remember if you’re in some sort of pre-health major, if so, then be sure to join the pre-health assn that the school has. you’ll find like minded students there.

Iowa may also have substance free housing that you can request or other Living and Learning Communities which might interest you and help you connect with other students with similar interests.

Majors: Economics and Spanish
Minor: Russian

I would think that with the above combo, and any clubs/assns associated with them, you’ll find seriously minded students.
