UCSD or Cal Poly SLO for CPE?

I've come down to my final two and I'm really at a crossroad between UCSD & Cal Poly. Anyone have any advice for me for comparing the Computer Engineering programs of each school?

Anyone? T T

That's a pretty tricky question. SLO's undergraduate engineering is unusually strong for a CSU, but it obviously doesn't award graduate degrees. For the time being, an undergraduate degree is all you need to make ~middle class $70k a year, but I would still try for a graduate degree (up to Master's), especially as more and more people compete for an increasingly limited number of positions, whether it be from outsourcing or domestic competion. With that being said, UCSD would be a superior choice in that case because the UC's tend to apply more conceptual teaching in undergrad.

Also, consider that SLO's renown for engineering comes largely from their hands-on experience in their fields of study. This is very good for majors such as EE or MechE, but computer science...I don't see an immediate advantage. Just my $.02 :)

isn't cpe half ee and half cse? (i really have no idea what i'm in for.. --)
but thanks for the response. it's really helpful.

I think that's EECS, which I don't think UCSD has oO;;

oh, i was talking about cpe in that it covers the areas that are included in ee and cse (which make for half each).

well i think it depends on your goals. if u wanna go directly into the work force, take slo, but if u are planning on getting a bs and going for grad school, UCSD is probably a better bet. and also, if you decide that engineering is not for you, its probably a better idea to get a degree in a new major from sd to set you up for possible grad school.

unless you LOVE slo (campus, what it offers, maybe they gave you scholarship money?) then i really think SD will open more doors for you. but visit the campuses and ask around if you know current slo and SD students to see what they think

So Do what you think is right. perSonally, i'D pick San Diego. notice the letters i am capitalizing in this paragraph. haha, good luck though
