UCSD or Davis?

did i make a mistake choosing SD? in terms of my engineering major, SD does have a higher ranking so to say…even though i never fully researched the major. however, i’m starting to think i might regret not goin to davis for the atmosphere/closeness to home etc. but oh well.

It really depends.

UCSD is the better science school, but the student body is very, very cutt-throat.

I know friends at each school and it seems like Davis is a much more laid-back school with friendly peers & professors. I live right next to UCSD so obviously I know a lot of people that go there. The consensus seems to be the same: good school, hard school, some lame peers, really gotta work to find out where parties are.

UC Davis doesn't compare to UC San Diego. Really.

I rejected UCSD for UCD. I found the UCSD campus dull. I know 4 other students from my HS who rejected SD for the same reason.

uc davis is not even in the same league as ucsd. you clearly made the correct choice. it is a no brainer. ucsd>>>ucd.

are u going to sd ucchris?

and ppl saying that sd is dull..im sure it is to some extent but "college is what u make of it"...HAHAH jk i hate that line..so cliche.

but look on the bright side..u get ur studies done. and no one talks about how irvine, santa cruz, or riverside is dull. i think ucsd' "dullness" is blown out of porportion. but if ur active in clubs, IMs, initiating convos with new ppl...it cant be that bad.

college is only as good as you make it for yourself.

AGHHH someone wrote that lineeee "college is only as good as you make it for yourself."

sorry doraemon..that line is just so commonly used now that its notgreat anymore. sure i agree with u that it IS what YOU make of it..but really, surroundings matter too as it limits ur social potential. if we are in the desert, sure we can have fun..but we are limited to what fun we can get. if we were at vegas, then i mean...theres endless fun but only if we want it.

but i think its not that smart to base ur college decision on which place has a better social life..cus it cant be that drastic of a difference (unless u are comparing ucla to merced ot something)

i got into UCSD.. BUT I'M GOIN TO IRVINE CUZ it is the perfect solution... some parties... good academics... the only UC in OC...

When I visited there the students I stayed with watched TV and then went to bed at 9:30 on a Friday night. I asked if this was common and they all gave me a strong YES. I know people who go there and they all say the same thing NOTHING to do on campus and lousy transportation as a freshman.

hah, sorry atlantiz, didn't realize that was cliched. i really speak that

honestly, because if you can focus better in an environment widely

considered to be socially dead (ucsd), then it may be the better decision in

the long run after all.

Just because that line is commonly used doesn't mean it's not true. To a degree, your example works, but it's such a hyperbole. It's a bit extreme.

well, i know it'd work for me ^_^

there is nothing you can do now, you already did your SIR lol.

no matter where you go you can have fun

they are two totally different worlds, but who really wants to go to school where they have chikens running around? i am saying this from experience... there were chickens running around campus when i came. well, i guess that could be fun, but come on. lol.

but seriously, either one could be a good choice. you made your decision and you should be happy with it. you should be glad that you even got into college. (im not saying you're not qualified, but many people do not have the opportunity) make the most of your experience!

and my last point: you will be going to school with ME. what more could you ask for!? (that is me totally joking, not being cocky.)

i am NIECK i am, **** you. You too ucchris, **** off you tard, no brainer piece of crap..

I don't want to take the time to counter your ignorance..

Megathunder..... WHAT THE HELL? since when did it become a ignorant statement to say that uc davis is not in the same league as ucsd. it clearly isnt. check departmental rankings and overall school rankings. the schools arent even comparable. i have nothing against davis, and i feel it is a good school. but dont call me ignorant for stating the fact that uc davis is in the same academic league as ucsd. i understand you attend uc davis, and you feel strongly for your school. i also like uc davis, as i do uc irvine and uc santa barbara, but that doesnt change the fact that i dont feel those schools are comparable to ucsd, ucla, or uc berkeley. i back up my statements by not only overall school ranking, but also by departmental rankings. ucsd ucla and berkeley all have a large amount of top 10 and top 20 ranked programs. uc davis simply doesnt. it doesnt meen it is not a good school, so dont take it personally, it just meens academically it is not in the same league. uc davis is the 6th most selective uc, its nothing to be ashamed of. it is more selective than uc santa cruz, uc riverside and uc merced, and not far behind uc santa barbara and uc irvine. again its acceptance numbers, including average gpa and sat score also back up my point. the only one being ignorant is you through your bias view of your own school. think with an open mind, not biased through your view of your own school and you clearly would come to the same conclusion as most of the unbiased people on college confidential. uc berkeley, ucla, ucsd>>> uc davis. i believe this to be fact. so you my friend can screw off.

ucchris - a lot of your programs you mention are graduate programs. considering UCSD (all UCs for that matter) rarely accept undergrad alums into their grad program, you're almost at a disadvantage by being at UCSD. There may be more opportunities for research and such, but other UCs certainly have several of these opportunities as well.

It's a shame that people regard UCs with a general stigma. For some reason people at UCB and UCLA think they are better then students at other UCs. Case in point: I know several friends accepted to Harvard, Stanford, UCB, the whole bit. They ended up at less prestigious UCs simply because of the financial package their designated schools offered.

Getting into a UC is an accomplishment in itself. Instead of alienating fellow UC students, why not accept them as your own? After all, we're all pretty much in the same family.

alienating students? are u kidding me? the poster asked a question, and i responded by telling her which i feel was a better school. i never alienated anyone untill another poster told me to *******, as he somehow felt offended because i stated ucsd was a better academic school than uc davis. that is not inteneded to alienate anyone. so according to you mydreamwever, i can never tell anyone on cc what school i think is better than another in because i could offend someone who attends what is regarded as the lower ranked school... are you joking? furthermore it has been stated by countless people on cc, and i feel like it is commonly regarded as a fact on cc that ucsd ucla and berkeley are regarded as better schools than uc davis. how is that an offensive post. you have the nerve to tell me i was offensive by stating what many people have posted on college confidential and most people regard as fact and telling the origninal poster she made the right decision choosing ucsd over uc davis, and then do not tell the other poster who told me to *$#@ off that he is being offensive. get your facts straight MrDreamWeaver. and ya its a huge disadvantage to attend a top uc like ucla and ucsd.... r u kidding me?... the only disadvantage is that it is more competitive than a lower uc. i have heard of plenty of people who have gone to ucsd, ucla and berkeley and have gotten into their undergrad alumni's grad program. why dont you point the finger of shame at a poster who is telling other posters to *#$^ off instead of pionting a finger at me for trying to give the original poster good advice and comferting her or him in their decision by telling her what i regard as a fact that ucsd is regarded as a better adacemic school than uc davis.

ucchris everyone on here can read all of your offensive posts regarding UCD. You are clearly a hater. Don't try to defend yourself on this. Your nasty tone comes through on every negative post you make dude. (chick) Are you a little insecure for some reason bro?

Uc Davis>> Ucsd, Ucla, Uc Berkeley haha

its more like everyone who goes to uc davis on here thinks im a hater because i do not feel it is as good as ucsd, ucla and berkeley. everyone else on here would likely agree with my orignial statement that ucsd> uc davis that garnered so much hatred towards me from uc davis posters.
