If you have to choose between Pace University (majoring in information systems) and UCSD (majoring in economics), which one will you choose?
Your academic and career interests?
Cost and affordability of each?
I got 50% scholarship for Pace University and I got no scholarship for UCSD. I know it will sound crazy but actually I am interested in both major! So i don’t know how to choose… I am more on Pace because I got scholarship and it’s in New York city so I think that there might be more opportunities for internships and jobs but UCSD is an extremely great school if we talk about world ranking even much better than Pace so I don’t know… Does the university you come from give you advantage or disadvantage by the time you look for a job?
Since I am an international student, I will need to pay like $22.000 each year for Pace bc I got the scholarship… or I will need to pay like $49.000 for UCSD… actually my parents were very flexible with me, something that I really appreciate, so they gave me the choice!
Pace doesn’t even compare to UCSD in any aspect, academic or otherwise. Pace operates as a predatory for-profit school rather than a normal not-for-profit university. The fact that it’s in NYC means literally nothing (or, at least, it shouldn’t). The graduation rate is less than 50% and the acceptance rate is in the 80s. Very poor school.
Go to UCSD. You will thank yourself later.
UCSD for sure
Pace is a not-for-profit university.
@happy1 I am aware, but how they run their university is the opposite.
^^^^There is a fundamental difference between a for-profit and a non-for-profit institution. Certainly you can strongly recommend against any particular school and you can discuss what you don’t like about how any particular school is run (Pace included of course), but IMO there is no reason to give out false facts to prove a point.
It’s similar, not exact. In any case, UCSD obliterates Pace.
I’d choose UCSD. Pace is so overpriced, & the only good things I’ve heard are about it’s business program.
Yeah, those are in 2 completely different universes. Not comparable in any way.
Why the different majors for different schools?
UCSD is on an a whole other league academically, socially, and in almost any respect. The only thing that Pace has is proximity to the job haven that is New York City (being in New York), but this is not necessary, and not much of a boost anyway since the best NYC school-year internships/positions are mostly snatched up by Columbia and NYU (to a lesser extent) students anyway.
Whether UCSD is worth the premium is something you will need to consider while looking at your current and future financial circumstances.
@newjerseygirl98 their business program is also only average at best. Probably heralded as “good” solely because of its location.
@yikesyikesyikes Actually, my first option was computer engineering but I couldn’t get in, so I got in with my second option which was economics
I think, I might to go to Pace university. Since I haven’t decided which major I like the most, Pace can give me more possibility to explore between finance and information systems which are the majors I am interested in (I chose economics at UCSD because it didn’t offer finance). I have read many forums from current students at UCSD and it seems that it’s extremely difficult to change to computer science or computer engineering because they are impacted majors. You will need like 4.0 out of 4.0 GPA in order to change to these majors. So I feel that I might get stuck in economics in case I find out that my real interest is compu instead of economics. Please correct me, if it’s not correct thinking like that
Additionally, some people have also told me that earning a degree in economics is not the same as earning a degree in finance… so that is another I am concerning =(
Not to bash on Pace but Pace is nowhere near UCSD’s level.
Do you live in CA or NY? Do you have time to still apply to other schools?
Here are some schools that are cheaper &/or better than Pace. I’m almost positive that all of these schools have a Finance major
CSU Long Beach, Rutgers Newark, UC Riverside, Temple, SUNY Albany, Drexel, UC Santa Cruz, Rutgers NB, CP Pomona, Stevens
@ASJackson923 I don’t live in either states!! I am an international student. I am from Venezuela… Unfortunately, there is no time for me to apply to other schools
I have a strong feeling that you may regret grossly overpaying for such a weak school.
Ok, then good luck on your future endeavors!
What about Baruch?
